One night in exchange for her tight investigative skills. And believe me, she’s tight, in more ways than one. One night. Because Miranda is trouble and being on the city council, as well as guardian to my younger brother and sister, means I can’t afford trouble.

What do you think is the best way to publish these days?

 The best way to publish depends what you’re going for. I can’t say enough about self-publishing. It’s changed my life. I like the fact that I have my own schedule, I’m not under pressure to have four books done by July or anything. I like to have say over my covers and plotlines. I like deciding what I’m going to write and I don’t have to justify that to anyone.

 

What are your favorite genres to read? Why?

I like reading contemporary romance and romantic suspense. I like these genres because I want enjoy reading the sex and getting the happily ever after. I enjoy the modern-day issues and problems you find in these types of books. I enjoy how authors weave in a relationship when people are getting slaughtered left and right. That’s always intriguing.

 

1. How do you approach starting a new book?

    I think about what books I’ve read lately or what type of tropes I like and I think about what kind of book to write going from there. Sometimes I have to make notes because I get an idea but I’m booked up with other ideas that I don’t have time for right then. I think of the kinds of characters that would create conflict with one another and start writing.

 

What are the best writing books or blogs you’ve ever read?

As an author, you start to analyze books you read because you’re always trying to better your writing. I know it sounds cliché, but I’ve been reading the Harry Potter books out loud to my kids and those are really good books. The fact that there is so much going on, made up words and all these characters that come on to the page and the fact that the author kept it all straight – that’s good writing right there.

 

1. What are your non-writing hobbies, or what do you do to relax?

    writing hobbies: I love watching General Hospital. I read a lot of books. I love to travel. I love going to concerts, plays, and football games. I love animals.

 

Do you have any personal heroes/heroines?

Personal heroes/heroines for me would be my mom and my grandma. Both have passed away but as you become a parent (and get older!), you realize and understand so much more. Not a day goes by that I don’t think about my mom raising me and doing the best she could. The difficult times I put her through or how she managed to keep a house intact. Same with my grandma who raised six kids and managed to coordinate schedules without cell phones and computers. Amazing when you think about all the things they didn’t have and how they persevered.

 

1. Have you had any unusual or noteworthy occupations?

    Not really. I used to work at Dairy Queen so I can make the loop on top of the ice cream cones like no one’s business! We used to make Buster Bars by taking wax cups and filling them with the soft-serve ice cream, peanuts and fudge and stick them in the freezer. I don’t know how they make them now. They probably have them ordered in or something. I also worked at a Title Company, JCPenny’s and Safeway – nothing super exciting.

 

What was your best date ever?

My best date ever was going to the American Music Awards last year with my husband. I got my make-up done and we got all dressed up and got to walk the red carpet. We had seats twenty-five rows from the stage, it was the best. He was looking pretty sharp. The entire weekend was top-notch.

 

Tell us something you are really proud of.

I’m really proud of my life. I have healthy, smart kids. My husband is super smart and is fortunate enough to retire this year so we have plans to travel this summer. I’m able to write and stay at home. I don’t want for anything. I couldn’t ask for more.

 

 

Author Bio:

Ashley Bostock was born and raised in Colorado where she currently resides with her husband, two children, her dog and two cats.

She loves reading, writing, and music and is always trying to find more time in the day to incorporate all three. Seeking an outlet and pursuing her life-long passion for writing, she began composing her first novel in late 2013.

She has traveled all over the world, but still has an extensive list of places she would love to visit. Anywhere near a sky-blue ocean will always be at the top of that list.

She carries a Bachelor’s Degree in History with a concentration in Elementary Education from Metropolitan State College of Denver. While she loves children, she now fears teaching, which probably has something to do with being a stay-at-home mom.

Interesting Fact: Ashley has been to every Disney theme park in the world.
