The New York Times Bestseller

Winter in Three Pines, and the sleepy village is carpeted in snow. It’s a time of peace and goodwill – until a scream pierces the biting air. A spectator at the annual Boxing Day curling match has been fatally electrocuted. Despite the large crowd, there are no witnesses and – apparently – no clues.

Chief Inspector Armand Gamache discovers a history of secrets and enemies in the dead woman’s past. But he has enemies of his own, and as he is frozen out of decision-making in the Surete du Quebec, he has to decide who he can trust…

My Review

This story opens on the final hours of entrepreneur CC de Poitiers imperfect life. She’s condescending, cold, and vicious; small wonder someone wants her dead.

The question of how she comes to be electrocuted on the middle of a frozen lake, surrounded by people who hated her abusive treatment of her daughter, Crie, leads Chief Inspector Gamache back to the quaint village of Three Pines during a fierce winter storm.

Louise Penny is a master at weaving setting, character, and story threads together into an unforgettable series that keeps me coming back for more.

Another highly recommended read by an author I’m proud to say is Canadian!

I give 5 lovely kisses to Dead Cold
