He’s Still the One #Anniversary #FamilyFirst

35th Anniversary!

Hard to imagine it’s been thirty-five years since DH and I said the big “I do” and began what would be a journey together filled with love, laughter, and yes, tears.

I remember being a nervous wreck that day. No one mentioned how stressful it is to plan a wedding- thank goodness I had the strong support of my family to help!

The day dawned sunny and bright (a good omen) and soon Mom and Dad’s was a flurry of activity. My bridesmaids looked beautiful in their pale pink dresses and I felt like a princess in my Cinderella gown.

There was a moment, pulling up to the church, when I was certain he wouldn’t show. I had to bite my tongue against begging Dad to take me home- I’m glad I didn’t!

I’m not sure who shook worse walking down the aisle, Dad or me 🙂

DH cried when he placed the ring on my finger.

My brother, best man. Sister-in-law, maid of honor. Me and DH. My cousin, bridesmaid, close friend, best man.

It was surreal. Was I dreaming?

At the park for pictures. In front; my youngest brother, ring bearer. DH’s niece, flower girl.

We did it! Married. The word invoked feelings of comfort and sheer joy. Time to celebrate!

Grandma made our wedding cake, isn’t it beautiful?

I won’t lie and say it’s been easy. DH and I are both hot-heads (he’s Scottish and a redhead, I’m French- need I say more, lol) but we took our vows seriously and worked through the issues and gradually they became fewer and farther between.

We’ve mellowed with age and melded our tastes into compromises that work for us. We’re best friends, lovers, parents and grandparents. The momentary fear I had on that Saturday so long ago was unfounded.

When you find ‘the one’, your soulmate, it’s worth taking a chance on love.

True love doesn’t happen right away; it’s an ever-growing process. It develops after you’ve gone through many ups and downs, when you’ve suffered together, cried together, laughed together.

  1. Happy Anniversary – we’re 42 years married and Cyberspouse is Scottish. Having fun is more important than working at marriage! Can’t believe our eldest will be forty this yearwhen we still haven’t grown up!

  3. Happy Anniversary, Jacquie! This is so beautiful! A beautiful bride, beautiful pictures, a handsome groom, tons of love seen in all the pictures, your loving advice there at the end, I just love it all! You are an inspiration to me at just ten years married. ♥️ All best wishes always for many more years of love and happiness together!

    1. Thank you so much, Jennifer! My best advice to married couples is to embrace the differences. So many try to change their spouses (yes, even me) and all it accomplishes is dissent.
DH drives me crazy with his messiness, but at the end of the day, does it really matter? He also makes me laugh even on my lowest lows and his hug fills my heart and soul with love- that’s what counts.
Wishing you and your hubby many years of hugs, my friend ❤

      1. Thank you, Jacquie! That’s even more wonderful advice, and it’s so true. My late brother would often say to me (in the middle of an argument with him- brother and sister argument), does this even matter? It diffused the situation so fast. Thanks for that. ♥️

  5. OMG Jacquie there is so much that I love about this post but first: Happy Anniversary! I love the dresses and suits (reminds me of my youth), I love your explanation about it not being a smooth ride (Je ne savais pas que tu étais française!) and I love that last quote which is so true!
