Happy Canada Day!

To celebrate our country, I thought I’d put together some fun facts, videos, and a few famous Canadian quotes to share with you.

Did You Know…

  1. Some of the world’s greatest superheroes come from Canadian imaginations, including Superman and Wolverine!

2. Quebec produces more than 77% of the world’s maple syrup.

3. If you write a letter (in any language) to North Pole, Canada, H0H 0H0, Santa Claus will answer.

4. 20% of the world’s fresh water is in Canada and we have the most lakes.

5. In Banff National Park there are overpasses for wild animals- seriously!

6. 30% of Canada is covered in trees and thick forest.

7. The lowest temperature ever recorded in Canada was -63 in Snag, Yukon.

  6. Happy Canada Day! I am posting a celebratory huzzah for this day but not until July 4th. I wanted to do both together but I’m not sure I did it right. Kudos on such a wonderful post, Jacquie.

  7. Happy Canada Day, Jacquie! I enjoyed the fun facts and quotes. I too have fond memories from visiting relatives there as a child. I’ve done a couple of lighthouse tours as an adult too. Fun times. I only have to cross a river to get there. Enjoy your celebrations.

    My sister and her family immigrated to Canada fifteen years ago and lived in Vancouver BC, but my sister was still in Hong Kong because she was too young to retire. They moved back to Hong Kong after my brother-in-law got a kidney transplant from China. He had to stay in Hong Kong for my sister to take care of him. They left their children in Canada for the care from friends. One year later, when my nephew graduated from college and niece graduated from high school, the two children moved back to Hong Kong also. I visited them a couple times when they lived there. They may go back to Canada one day.

    Hubby and I went to Victoria a couple times. One time we took a ferry from Port Angeles without making hotel reservation, not knowing it was a Canadian holiday. We drove for hours and couldn’t find a hotel even from a tiny inn. We slept in the car for the night (I was awake all night). We went to Starbucks first thing in the morning.

    Hubby has some relatives in Toronto. We went to Niagara Falls on the Canada side one year. It was so cold that the battery of my camcorder froze and I thought the camera was broken!!

      1. It was winter, Jacquie. I remember passing by a giant clock. Each number on the dial was supposed to be flowers but they were covered with snow. I remember saying I wanted to go back during spring to see flowers on that clock.
        I think it was the same trip when we wanted to take the ferry from an island in Seattle area to go to Port Angeles then take the ferry to Victoria. We missed the ferry, so we drove to the next dock to take the ferry to Port Townsend and drove from Port Townsend to Port Angeles. So we arrived Victoria late. After that trip, I didn’t want to go anywhere without advanced booking. 🙂

        1. I’m sorry your trip turned out so disappointing. Did you get to see the falls lit up at night? I’ve been by Niagara but never seen it ( bucket list).
          Victoria is a tourist city. If you come, try to make it off- season, cheaper and less crowded.

          1. No we didn’t see the falls lit up at night. It was Christmas time though, and we hear music playing through the loud speakers on the streets. Yes, we have a better idea about Victoria now, Jacquie!

    1. Thank you, Teagan. It was a cool, cloudy day with no fireworks, but that’s just as well with the current world situation.
      The ribs are painful and there’s not even any bruising to show for it! lol

  20. Happy Canada Day. My fiance raised his kids in Northern Alberta while working there, and they like it so much they stayed in Canada. He said he would like to add 1 fact to your list. Hockey is not the national sport of Canada, Lacrosse is. He always trick us Americans on that one.

  21. My fiance spent 12 years in Cold Lake, Alberta working with the Canadian Air Force. He said he also travel quite a bit in Canada, including. Bagotville and Quebec city.
