Pets are an important part of our family and enrich our lives

I’ve always had a pet of some kind. I remember walking home from school as a child and having a pup follow me. When I asked Mom if we could keep it, she said, “You and your animals.” But, she let it stay 🙂

Some people are staunch dog lovers:

While others treasure their feline friends:

They aren’t just animals to me, they’re family. When I’m upset or not feeling well, my nine year-old calico, Harley, senses it and stays on my lap offering comfort.

    1. They really take over your heart. Maybe because, like small children, they need care? But I think it’s more elemental than that. They give unconditional love and comfort- we’re never alone if we have a pet by our side 🙂

  5. I haven’t had a pet – a real pet – in ages, but we do feed (and my kids love playing), with the four stray cats and a dog that made our backyard their home. The five play together, fight for affection, and are hilarious too.

  6. Great topic, Jacquie. My last cat died in 2014. I loved that cat and grieved her death as I would mourn the loss of any of my family members. I was preparing to adopt another cat when San Francisco issued a shelter in place orders, and despite all the talk of re-opening, we remain shut down so, it’s almost impossible to get a cat. I hope this mess ends soon. I would love to have a cat right now.

    2. It’s too bad they won’t let you adopt online and deliver to your home. I know many animals are coming into our rescue centres because of the Covid crisis.

        1. I’m lucky enough to have a small RV lot to enjoy. It must be very hard for condo and apartment dwellers.
          They’ve opened the parks here, though I’m not sure it was a good idea. The kids are rebelling against the advice of our health specialists and are taking it to the streets. Our Covid numbers are showing a marked increase because of it.
          Tough to know what to do. On the one hand, we need the economy to pick up, but on the other hand it’s dangerous to everyone.
          I hope they find a vaccine soon!

          1. We could have kept the pandemic team and managed it as was planned by the CDC in 2018. I am lucky enough to have a second floor apartment that overlooks a garden and more than enough toys to keep me amused, but I hate the needless suffering we’re going. I would love to have an RV and go on a cross country trip — if that ever becomes possible again. BTW, I saw one of your recent releases. I loved your use of the line. “My Baby, Just Wrote Me a Letter” as a book title.
