#BookReview- Two nail-biting #mysteries by @Harmony_Kent and Tamara Ferguson @TammysDragonfly

I’m in the reading zone!

I don’t know if it’s Covid fatigue or a writing block, but my WIP is going nowhere fast. Instead, I’ve decided to give it a rest and try to gain inspiration with some great books like those I’ve listed below.

Both of these books are slow burn suspense reads that are sure to keep you turning the pages!

It’s so remote out here. Anything could happen …

A missed phone call in the night is all it takes.

When Carole’s 18-year-old son goes missing, she breaks into Jayden’s laptop to try to understand his life.

All too soon, Carole discovers just how little she knew her boy.

And when one lead after another dead-ends, the distraught mother has to face the unthinkable.

Sucked into a sticky web of deceit and lies, nothing is as it seems.

When your life turns inside out and upside down, who would you trust?

My Review

The death of Carole’s husband sends the family into a tailspin. Left as a single parent, she tries to move forward for the sake of her son, Jayden, but it’s not easy. Instead of bringing the family closer, the pain is bottled inside and festers into Jayden’s teen years.

Carole seeks solace from her loss with a combination of alcohol and sleeping aids and when her son sends a message that he’s stuck, she misses the call.

And now, Jayden is missing.

What follows is a mother’s desperate search for her boy amid self-recriminations and doubt from family and the police force. Even though Jayden would never disappear this way, Carole has an uphill battle proving it- especially as she knows so little about his life.

This is a story any parent can connect with. Teens are notorious for being secretive. All too often we, as parents, are busy with our jobs and running the household. Rather than pushing our kids to open up about their lives, we ‘respect’ their privacy. But at what cost?

While this is a masterful mystery (I never guessed until near the end who was behind it) the takeaway for me is that we need to slow down and pay more attention to those we love before it’s too late.

This is a must read book. Well done, Harmony Kent!

My Review

Heather Janson is doing fine on the surface. She owns a popular bar in the small town of Crystal Rock (though she keeps that under wraps) while studying to become a nurse at the Wounded Warrior Home. Though trust comes hard for Heather, she’s made good friends here and hopes to shake off the terrible secrets of her past.

Injured during active duty, Lieutenant Sam Wellman joins his estranged brother in Crystal Rock and signs up for rehabilitation at the Wounded Warrior Home. Sam meets Heather and is instantly drawn to the reticent young woman. Sensing a kindred spirit, the two bond and begin to see where their attraction will lead.

Information comes to light tying Sam and Heather together in an unexpected way and the two must work together to stop a threat to their newfound love.

I’ve read several of this author’s books and enjoy the complexity of her characters and the situations they are put through to gain their HEA.

    I LOVED Harmony’s The Vanished Boy. It’s become my favorite of all her releases. Tamra’s book also sounds great. Congratulations to both authors!

  17. Fabulous reviews of Harmony’s and Tamara’s books, Jacquie! I know exactly how it goes with teenagers keeping secrets. In a sense, they want to exercise independence, on the other hand, they don’t want the parents to interfere with them even when they know they shouldn’t be doing certain things. Harmony did a wonderful job with her book!
