For the Love of #Trees- #SundayStills #TreeSquare

“Character is like a tree and reputation like a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.”

Abraham Lincoln

This week’s Sunday Stills Challenge from Terri Webster Schrandt is one near and dear to my heart- trees. You can join here. Becky B is also running a month-long #TreeSquare challenge on her blog. Check it out here.

The above photo is a stand of moss-laden trees we found on one of our drives exploring beautiful Vancouver Island.

The forest is thick and mysterious. I wonder if we’ll find Sasquatch hidden in its depths?

Give fools their gold, and knaves their power; let fortune’s bubbles rise and fall; who sows a field, or trains a flower, or plants a tree, is more than all.

John Greenleaf Whittier

Hubby taking a well-deserved break under the boughs of our giant spruce tree.

Trees add a natural beauty to our world.

Not sure what type of tree these are, but they sure have character!

A lovely country road. Doesn’t it make you want to explore where it goes?

Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.

Do trees play a part in your lives? For me, they represent freedom. Life in a complicated world is sometimes overwhelming, but if you sit and watch a tree for a while the stress will slip away. Try it, I’ll wait… 🙂

  1. Beautiful trees and perfect quotes to go with them, Jacquie! Marsha is going to be tickled that you joined WQW this week! I love that Bruce Lee quote. I think the bent-looking ones may be from the sugar pine family. I have to say that since you are a writer, you could quote yourself from one of your works 🙂 Hmm, sasquatch? I believe!

  2. Beautiful photos, Jacquie! We were in Victoria several years ago when we cruised Alaska’s inside passage. I took a photo of a distant mountain similar to the one you posted. I thought it was Mt. Rainier, but our guide said it was Mt. Baker. What little we saw of British Columbia was beautiful!

    1. Thank you, Joan. Yes, we can see Mt. Baker from Most of the south Island. It must be beautiful up close!
I imagine you got some wonderful photos from your voyage. Did you see any whales?

  3. I have a love for trees, too, Jacquie, especially the ones in my yard. I was so sad when we lost part of one to an ice storm earlier this year, and I’m not sure if it will recover from it. Beautiful photos!

  4. Aaah, the mossy shady green Pacific NW. Beautiful place to live, Jacquie. I have great love and respect for trees too. And you’re right… sit beneath one and breathe, and your stress slips away. ❤ ❤

    1. I’m a town girl, so those big trees swaying in the wind make me nervous, lol.
We went quading once and got stuck back in the bush. Every little noise seemed amplified. My head was on a spin! 🙂

  5. Trees have really captured all of our imaginations, haven’t they, Jacquie? Thank you for linking to Writer’s Quotes Wednesdays. Your post is beautiful. I especially love your mystery monster tree. Wonderful choices for this week. 🙂

  6. Your pictures are gorgeous. Living on the prairies, trees were precious. My dad wrote to his MLA requesting a tree not be cut down in the ditch near our home as it was the only one for miles around. From one of my favourite poems. “Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.” Joyce Kilmer.

    1. I love that poem, Darlene. I remember traveling to Canwood, Sask with hubby for his grandmother’s funeral and being amazed by the miles and miles of swaying wheat fields- so different from BC and northwestern Alberta where I grew up 🙂
