My Review

After the heartbreaking loss of his daughter and subsequent breakdown of his marriage, Doctor Sean Flannigan takes his boat and disappears into the Florida Keys, seeking escape from his demons. Sailing into Paradise Cove, Sean decides to stay at a set of seaside cottages and is overwhelmed by the over-friendly owner and her three daughters. He’d leave, but the enticing Kayla keeps him on the beach.

Kayla Holmes loves her family’s guest cottages inherited from her step-father, though there’s a lot of repairs needed and money is tight. She, along with her mother and sisters, enjoy interacting with their guests- especially the mysterious sailer who booked a long stay in one of their cabins. Something about the taciturn Sean Flannigan draws Kayla. She tells herself it’s because she wants to see their guests have a good time, but that doesn’t explain the reason why her heartbeat jumps whenever he is near.

When Sean rescues a Cuban family adrift in the bay, he and the Holmes clan band together to get the pregnant wife the care she needs. Sean can’t turn his back, though it brings painful memories of his daughter swimming to the surface. With Kayla’s compassion and caring arms, he slowly realizes life goes on and second chances can mend broken hearts.

This is a beautifully told story of one man’s terrible loss and the woman who brought him back to life.

  1. Jacquie, thank you so much for this wonderful review. I loved writing it, and creating the characters, they became family to me. It also required some research so Traci Hall, a great friend of mine, joined me in our escape to Islamorada–the home of Paradise Cove. We were invited on a beautiful boat to experience the thrill of a Sailfish tournament which was used in the second book in the series. We had to scour the place for the best lobster and the most fun places to go. It was hard but we do suffer for our art. LOL.

    1. Hi Patrice, thanks for stopping by the blog! Loved Sean and Kayla’s story, along with that of the Cuban family they helped find a better life.
I can see you and Traci soaking up the sun, cocktail in hand 🙂

    1. My brother and sister-in-law lost their sixteen-year-old son in a tragic accident. Unlike Sean’s experience in the book, his death drew them closer together, but I can’t imagine how hard it was to get past the pain.
