#BookReviews- End of November Highlights #amreading @UviPoznansky @SarahBrentyn @Sandra_Cox

The first week of Love, Me’s release went well! I managed a pretty orange Amazon ribbon and some wonderful reviews, so thank you for your support!

I’m now working on two very different stories. One is a thriller about a woman stalked by a serial killer, and the other is a YA women’s fiction. Two sisters must learn to work together after the deaths of their parents or lose their young brother to the foster care system.

For reading, I started with a war story, then a collaboration of short stories, a post-apocalyptic suspense and finally, an unforgettable western.

From USA Today Bestselling Author, Uvi Poznansky, comes a passionate wartime love story:

Lenny goes as far back as the moment he met Natasha during WWII, when he was a wounded warrior and she—a star, brilliant yet illusive. Natasha was a riddle to him then, and to this day, with all the changes she has gone through, she still is.

My Review

Lenny fell in love with the beautiful Natasha from the moment he saw her on a stage performing for soldiers shortly before the devastation of Pearl Harbor.

She was young, but even then, the lure of her smile and magic of her music drew him like no other, but she was an up-and-coming star while he was a private in the army- their situation was untenable. Then, thanks to a well-meaning friend’s interference, he and Natasha became pen pals, met, and fell in love.

Much like Natasha’s haunting ballads, their love story is a series of highs and lows, but there is never any doubt of their devotion to one another.

The story moves from the present when Natasha is battling Early Onset Alzheimer’s and the stress it puts on their relationship, to Lenny’s memories of the past, including many heart-wrenching scenes from wartime events.

Favorite Lines:

Looking at me through the mirror she asks, “So? What about this woman? D’you like her?”

I turn her around to face me, simply to prevent her from talking to herself again. “It’s you I care for,” I say, brushing my fingers through her unkempt hair. “Only you.”

The Music of Us- Uvi Poznansky

Her fingers awakened something in the belly of the instrument, in my guts, in the hearts of everyone present. A prayer for peace.

The Music of Us- Uvi Poznansky

This is an emotional read that will remind you to value the time you have, the future holds no promises.

WE ARE ALL PART SHADOW

My Review

This is an anthology of short stories created by eight of the best authors in literary fiction.

Each story centers around compelling feelings of betrayal, doubt, and mistrust that can happen in a relationship.

We all have stories.  The ones we imagine. The ones we tell. The ones we hide.

Brentyn, Sarah. The Shadows We Breathe (Volume 1) (p. 1). Kindle Edition.

I was taken by the depth created within the boundaries laid out for this set; flash stories of 500 words, micro stories totaling 50 words, and micro-bursts at only 10 words.

Skin is the gateway between outside and me, the barrier that protects when the external becomes too real, too brutal.

Between- Ali Isaac
Brentyn, Sarah. The Shadows We Breathe (Volume 1) (p. 2). Kindle Edition.

Short. Powerful. Enthralling.

My Review

An epic love story for the ages!

On the run from a dangerous man, Alexandria O’Malley poses as a young boy and joins a cattle drive on the Chisholm Trail- and tries to stay out of the foreman’s way.

Brandon Wade doesn’t need a snot-nosed kid on a dangerous cattle drive, but his conscience won’t let him send the boy on his way, either. Determined to keep an eye on the young sharpshooter, he slowly gains respect for Alex’s hard-working ethic and talent with animals.

When a lightning storm causes a stampede, Brandon and Alex are separated from his men and must ride out the storm together where Brandon learns his trailhand is a woman! Suddenly, his strange fascination with the ‘boy’ begins to make sense. Angry at being duped, Brandon can’t deny his attraction to the O’Malley and determines to make her his bride.

Alexandria is torn between running before Brandon gets hurt by the devil on her tail and giving in to the feelings she has for the foreman. Before she can make a decision, Alex is captured by Comancheros and taken to their mountain hideaway by their darkly compelling leader who plans to sell her to the highest bidder- if he can keep his hands off her.

Brandon swears revenge and trails the group, defying the odds to make a daring rescue. With Alexandria in his arms again, Brandon takes her home to Silverhills and urges her to pick a date for their wedding. But the past is creeping up on them and the two lovebirds will be tested in ways neither could have expected.

“What am I going to do with you, O’Malley?”

“I don’t see the need to do anything with me.” Her back ramrod straight, she stared at the stone fireplace on the far side of the wall. “Don’t misunderstand me, Irish,” he continued as if she’d never spoke. “I admire your courage and your grit. What I don’t admire,” his voice hardened, “is your blatant stupidity, your mule-headed stubbornness and your stiff-backed pride.”

Silverhills- Sandra Cox

This is a sweeping romance filled with larger-than-life heroes, a villain with character (and one without), in an unforgettable Texas setting. Silverhills would be an epic movie!

And Sandra’s book, Silverhills–read it, wish I could again, can’t wait for her next Western!
