It’s impossible not to be happy when a spring breeze blows on your face, and the sun teases flowers to bloom.

This is one of our plum trees- so pretty!

This week has been a mixed bag, reading-wise. While I enjoyed the first two books, I have to question why authors must detract from what could be gripping stories with an overabundance of sex scenes.

Are you a fan of open-door sex, or do you prefer it to be intimated?

I don’t mind some, but when it takes up half the book, and it’s down and dirty I end up skimming instead of enjoying.

Forever Never Kindle Edition

This could have been a five star read if not for the excessive sex scenes. I get that Brick shows his love through dominating Remi. I don’t need to be hit over the head- repeatedly- to feel their devotion.
What I did like about this story is Remi’s loyalty to Camille. Even though she knew she was endangering her own life by trying to help her friend, Remi never faltered.
The tense action towards the end of the book made up for all the skimming I had to do to get there. Overall, a good read.

I was looking forward to this one. Every romantic loves the idea of the shy librarian and a handsome hero finding their HEA, but that trope falls flat in this story.
Emory Ealson comes across as a vixen with her short, short skirts and teasing ways. She meets Knox Gentry (love that name!) at a frat party and ends up passing out in his bed with him holding her boob. Not really the shy girl who just went through a harsh breakup, IMO.
Where this story shines is Knox’s character. He is kind, caring, deeply in love with Emory, and jumps through many hoops to prove it to her.
I think he deserved someone worthy of his heart, but that might just be me, lol

The Cerise (Kingdom of Lies Book 1) Kindle Edition

After a confusing start, this story quickly became an exciting action/adventure.
Khiara is a Cerise. Gifted with the ability to create fire from within, she is hunted for her red hair (I know, weird, hey?) and is determined to kill the soldiers who killed her family. This leads her into a compromising position where her best friend, Ezra, tricks her with a love curse that backfires in the worst way.
This book has a lot of promise but suffers from choppy scenes and leaves readers hanging with a cliffhanger the size of Mount Everest.

Riley and Nick have barely recovered from their last big adventure (where they each got shot!) when they open the door to Riley’s scary grandmother, who has come to teach her miscreant granddaughter how to use her psychic powers whether she wants to or not.
Nick is totally enamored with his new girlfriend- a first for him- and refuses to let Riley out of his sight using anything in his means, even if it causes friction between them. At least she’ll be alive. But then his ex-partner shows up asking for her help on a murder case and once again, Riley dives headfirst into trouble.
There are so many laugh-out-loud scenes in this story that made it a pleasure to read from start to finish. I love the chemistry between Nick and Riley. His efforts to make himself more attractive to her are so sweet.
I hope this series continues for a long time- it’s so good!

Thank you for all your lovely and detailed reviews and ‘The Corpse in the Closet’ sounds terrific – I want to read more, and even the previous one. How could they both manage to get shot?!   7. Yay for spring. I’m with ya. Those soft winds just blow the cares away, don’t they.

    Corpse in the Closet. Is that not a great title?

    I don’t enjoy open-door sex. I like mine behind closed doors:) I also don’t care for sex taking over the storyline.

    And speaking of which, I could do with the twins being a little more discerning about hooking up and drinking. That said, I’m enthralled with the series. 🙂 Working on book 2.
