Saying Goodbye to a Dear Old Friend #Ilovemycat

Twelve years ago, my husband brought me this sweet little kitten to ease my loneliness after I moved to Vancouver Island to help my daughter and young grandson settle into their new schools. He was still working in Alberta—twelve hundred kilometers away—and I suffered from a big case of homesickness. I’d never been away from my hometown, filled with family and friends, so this move was a big change.

Harley became my best friend and confidant, along with our Shepard, Annie.

They made the transition to my new life much easier, and I’ll forever be grateful. Even though Annie was ten times the size of Harley, the cat ruled the roost. They would always roughhouse, and it was the dog who cried foul, lol.

After Annie passed away, Harley became upset whenever I left the house for too long. She would also cry in the middle of the night until Hubby, or I, assured her we were home and she was safe.

We thought of getting another cat to give her company, but she was ferocious around other animals and people who walked by our place. We even got a Beware of Cat sign to warn them to be careful around her!

The house seems so empty now that they are gone, but I think it will be a while before we get another animal friend. I just hope and pray Harley found Annie in Heaven and they are together again ❤

  4. Our fur baby losses are the most heartbreaking kind. They love us so much and then in a blink of an eye they are gone. I’m sorry for your loss of Harley and hope the precious memories of her will soon replace the pain you feel now. Of course, Annie and Harley are now together and so happy.

  6. Sweet baby. She’s sound alot like my Chuck, who has been gone awhile now. No ‘guests’ left the room without a family member, without being stalked;)

  9. Kudos to your husband. That was very thoughtful and he picked the right kitty too, didn’t he?;) There’s not a doubt in my mind that Annie and Harley are chasing butterflies and leaves, smelling the flowers and soaking up the sun. Wishing you much heart healing. Hugs

  11. Sending sympathy. It’s so hard to lose a pet you loved. We swore we weren’t going to replace Pywackett when he died after twenty years, but then a mother cat left a stray kitten on our porch. And well… He’s been with us ten years now.

  12. Ah, my sympathies, Jacqui. I’ve been through this several times. Right now, we have no pets. My spouse wants a break, after 30+ years of pets. But we’ll see what the future brings.
