Tuesday #BookReviews- Desert Cursed Series Books 1-2 @TheShannonMayer, The Legacy Series Books 1-2 @MKRoehrich #fantasy #reading

Can you believe it’s almost the end of April already? Instead of worrying about time change they should be figuring a way to slow that sucker down, lol

One benefit of not writing is that I’ve gained a lot more time for reading, which makes me a happy camper- literally, since we live in an RV 🙂

I’ve been immersing myself in the fantasy genre lately. I love the imaginative worlds writers come up with, as well as the pulse-pounding action/adventure aspect of these stories. I see some reviewers complain about cliffhanger endings, but really, that seems to be necessary within the series as the overarching plot generally spans several books. For myself, I look forward to the next story so I can see what will happen to the H/H next!

Below are a few of the fantasy novels I can highly recommend. Just click the covers to learn more.

Witch’s Reign (The Desert Cursed Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

Shannon Mayer

Shannon Mayer lives in the southwestern tip of Canada with her husband and son, on a farm full of animals. She has a tendency to write stories that blend action, unexpected twists, and humor with a touch of romance that leaves readers on the edges of their seats.

The Desert Cursed Series should only be read by people who can root for an underdog, have a good sense of humor, a love for high paced action, and like a blend of magic that even a Muggle could love. With over half a million copies sold, when you indulge in the Desert Cursed series, you’re in good company.

Good start to a fun new series!
Zamira is a kickass heroine who doesn’t mince words, especially when it comes to her no-good, lying, cheating ex-husband. She may have to work with him, but that doesn’t mean she needs to put up with his insufferable attitude. If only her mentor, Ish, saw through his crap like Zam does.
But then the Ice Witch captures Zam’s best friend, and she is saddled with a human servant (even if he is handsome) while her ex goes after a priceless gem for Ish. The fates must be laughing.
After reading- and loving- The Shadowspell Academy- by Shannon Mayer and K.F. Breene, I found this book started without the trademark humor in the other series and missed it. But the action is good and there are some interesting characters, so I ended up enjoying the story and will definitely give book two a go.

Dragon’s Ground (The Desert Cursed Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

by Shannon Mayer

Dragons and danger and magic collide… And it’s only Monday.

In the second book of USA Today Bestselling Desert Cursed series, Zamira must once again test her mettle against a world bent on breaking her, proving she is more than she seems.

After a long separation, Zam, the lion shifter (though she’s more like a house cat), is finally reunited with her friends, the mischievous mini-dragon Lila and the enigmatic Jinn Maks. Their reunion marks the beginning of a new chapter in their action-packed saga.
When Zam’s brother, Bryce, who lost his mobility in a horrific attack by the Jinn several years ago, leaves the relative safety of the Stockyards in search of a powerful healer in the dragon’s grounds, Zam follows against Ish’s orders to remain in camp.
On the way, she meets up with her new friends, and together, the three of them enter the dangerous dragon territory, where surprises await.
This is a fun action/adventure with plenty of witty banter and tender moments between the estranged siblings. I can’t wait to dive into book 3!

Rain of Shadows and Endings (The Legacy Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

by Melissa Roehrich

Melissa is a dark fantasy romance author that loves coffee, dragons, and constantly rearranging her bookshelves.

A chosen that was never meant to be.

Tessalyn Asura was as forgotten as the realm. But when she finds herself the personal Source to the Heir of Endings, she winds up serving in the darkest Kingdom of them all . The secrets within the Arius Kingdom are meant to be learned and kept, but this was never the life she wanted. Fighting not only the fate thrust upon her, but the temptation to lose herself to desire, Tessa will do anything to escape her new destiny. Until she starts to realize maybe their world wasn’t as forgotten as they thought, and maybe she’s the reason why.

Powerful!

Raised as an orphan, Tessa is told over and over she is without worth. Unwanted. Trouble.
Other than a few friends, she is ostracized by the rest of the fae in the group home and regularly punished by Mother Cordelia. But on the night of the Selection, against all odds, Tessa is chosen to be a Source by the Arius kingdom’s Legacy heir.
Forced into a bond she never asked for, Tessa must learn to curb her inner chaos and bow to her master, Theon.
But a storm is brewing, and vengeance will reap its own rewards.
This is a powerhouse start to a twisted new romantasy where secrets are as common as the dark magic used to control a young woman who just wants to breathe freely. But you can only stifle a person’s nature for so long before it shatters, and what emerges may be more than anyone is prepared for.

Storm of Secrets and Sorrow (The Legacy Series Book 2) Kindle Edition

by Melissa Roehrich

In a realm full of secrets, she’s collecting them all.

A choice to make.

Tessalyn Ausra’s fate has always been out of her hands. Still bonded to the Heir of Endings, she now finds herself with more control than ever before. Everyone wants something from her, and she has to choose a side. But in a realm full of villains, she trusts no one, and she has secrets of her own to keep.

Beginnings and Endings
Tessa comes into her power, bringing a price on her head. The Legacy lords want to use her, while others seek to end her life. Theon, Luka, and Axel search for answers before Tessa is taken from them, but their secrets only escalate the distrust growing between the bond.
This one is a labyrinth of complexity. The introduction of Gods from other realms, a new layer to an already intricate story arc, can at times be a challenge to navigate, but it’s a journey that promises rich rewards for those who persevere.
Also, I’m not into menage relationships and feel Theon deserves his HEA without needing to share Tessa with Luca.
Otherwise, this is a page-turner!

Aren’t fantasy covers the best? I want to be a teen again so I can make some wall posters, lol

I’ll leave you with a photo of my Canadian pride tulips. Hope your spring is filled with the color and magic of flowers!

  4. It looks like you are enjoying some well-deserved R&R, Jacquie. I haven’t read many fantasy novels, but it’s not hard to appreciate the skill it requires to build entire worlds.

      1. Well…I went to check out Yarros and nearly passed out. OMG. I’ve never seen so many ratings. I think that series has more than Hunger Games. How have I missed this? I’m going to have to read it:)

Pendergast is quite a unique character, isn’t he? Believe it or not, he’s not in this series. I’m reading the Gideon Crew series and he’s nearly a ‘normal’ character. LOL.

Thanks for the heads up on the Empyrean series.

Have a grand day, my friend.

        1. I’ve been meaning to read the Gideon books but got sidetracked, lol. All of Yarros books are excellent but she took it up a notch with Fourth Wing 😊

      1. It’s terrible to feel burned out, Jacquie! There are things only you can do for yourself and they would be your priority.
My daughter has been working part time and she just got a full time job starting in two weeks. Hubby and I will help out a lot. It’ll be our priority.
This blogging community is very supportive. Take care of yourself!
