Lifestyles of the small-town famous

Forced to leave Nashville after a scandal, Savannah Walters has come home to Slippery Rock, Missouri, with a bruised ego and her singing career in jeopardy. As if that isn’t humiliating enough, on her way into town she’s rescued by her swoon-worthy childhood crush, Collin Tyler.

His hands are full running the family orchard and dealing with his delinquent teen sister, so Collin doesn’t need to get involved with someone as fiery and unpredictable as Savannah. But the intense attraction between them can’t be denied. And when disaster strikes, they’ll both be surprised by who’s still standing when the dust settles.

Teaser 1 - Famous in a Small Town

Love & Scandal

I don’t know about you, but I love flipping through the checkout stand magazines to read which Hollywood celebrity is mad at which. I’m not sure where the fascination with celebrity comes from – neither of my parents care what is going on in Hollywood – but the bug bit me in my teens, and it’s still here. I know, that makes me a bad person doesn’t it?

The thing is, I don’t think there is anything wrong with enjoying a little taste of the glamorous life – I mean, when do we as normal people have the chance to wear designer gowns or vacation in a private villa on a private island? That’s what these magazines bring to the table, along with a juicy scandal – because, let’s face it, knowing that Bob in Accounting bites his nails isn’t that big a secret. . .but knowing that our favorite celebrity does the same thing? It makes them a little more human. A little more like us – warts and all!

Do you have a favorite celebrity magazine? What makes it fun to read?

Her Hometown Redemption

When Tanya Todd returns to Templeton Cove, she knows better than to expect a warm welcome. She burned a few bridges on her way out of town, and making amends won’t be easy. First on her list is the man whose heart she carelessly shattered, Liam Browne.

Seeing the successful criminal lawyer after all these years, Tanya is interested in more than just Liam’s forgiveness. As they work together to bring the man who hurt her sister to justice, the attraction between them sizzles. Suddenly Tanya’s second chance could include a future with Liam…if she can prove she’s changed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt:
Hitching her bag onto her shoulder, Tanya pulled back her shoulders and approached Liam, trepidation ricocheting through her. What choice did she have but to talk to him? If she walked out without a word, things would only be harder the next time they met––and there would most definitely be a next time. There was always a next time in a place as small as Templeton.
His shoulders straightened beneath his crisp, white shirt as she neared. The music seemed to grow in volume, the beat matching her footsteps and the banging of her heart. When she was a safe distance away from him, Tanya stopped. “Hi.”
His crystal blue gaze bored into hers, his jaw tight and his mouth a thin line. The burning stares of the other patrons pricked at her skin, making her want to turn and face each of them down.
When it was clear Liam had nothing to say to her, Tanya inhaled. “Right, well, I guess I’ll see you around then.”
“Wait.”
She halted with her back to him. Let me go, Liam. Please. She briefly closed her eyes, before opening them and facing him. “What?”
“Why don’t you join me?” He waved toward the empty seat at his table. “It’s…good to see you.”
Tanya glanced at the seat, at him and then around the restaurant. Familiar faces swam in front of her. Faces she remembered from a different life, a different time. Kevin and Nick. Bianca and Ella. All people she should’ve known would still be here. People who thought they knew her and her mother, but never really knew or understood them at all.
Rachel graciously agreed to answer my probing  interview questions, thank you Rachel 🙂
Why do you write?
Because I have to! Writing has been in me for as long as I can remember but once I started working seriously toward publication, I couldn’t stop. Nowadays, it’s a compulsion and woe betide anyone who’s near me if I haven’t been able to write for more than three days. Seriously savage, lol!
What genre do you favor?
I love most genres (apart from paranormal) and currently write contemporary romance & romantic suspense for Harlequin Superromance and Victorian romance for eKensington/Lyrical. My favorite genre to read is romantic suspense.
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
I was young, around seven or eight, when I discovered Enid Blyton’s Secret Seven series. I started writing my own stories then and have done so on and off ever since.
What do you think is the best way to publish these days?
There is no easy ‘way in’, unfortunately. Many writers opt for the self-publishing route but I just haven’t the know how or stamina to take on everything else that it entails on top of producing my best work. The best way to get published is to write, submit, write submit and repeat. Your tenacity will pay off and you’ll learn more with each and every book.
Do your characters talk to you?
All the time! I have characters talking to me from the book I’m writing, the ones I am planning…even the books I didn’t know I was going to write but characters turn up demanding I tell their story. I am more than happy to listen – it will be a lot more worrying if I just hear silence!
How do you approach starting a new book?
My process usually starts with a premise or a topic/issue I want to explore. Once I’ve let the idea germinate awhile, I’ll then complete character sketches for my hero & heroine (and my villain if I have one. With that done, I usually have the characters’ internal and external conflicts. I then write a 3-4 page synopsis. The first draft, I write from beginning to end without looking back and then the hard work comes with the following drafts and sorting the mess into some kind of order, lol!
What are your non-writing hobbies, or what do you do to relax?
I love to read, knit and watch far too much TV – I especially love US crime dramas and British period dramas. I am also partial to a country walk followed by a pub lunch…and a couple of glasses of chilled white wine!
Navy SEAL or cowboy? Cowboy
Chocolate or chips?  Chips
Fancy restaurant or picnic? Restaurant
Beer or wine? Wine
Favorite author? Nora Roberts/Jill Shalvis
Smooth or hairy? Smooth
*** My Review ***
I’ve long been a fan of Harlequin’s Superromance line. The stories are carefully crafted, usually with a strong moral theme, and a broader depth of character and setting. Rachel does a commendable job touching all of these bases in Her Hometown Redemption.
Tanya, the heroine, has enough emotional baggage to stoop the broadest of shoulders. While I didn’t always connect with her, I did admire her strength in returning to her hometown to try and correct old wrongs.
I liked Liam from the start. Here’s a guy who’s never forgotten the one who got away, and though he tries to keep his distance the second time around, falls just as deeply in love as before.
I’d recommend this book to anyone who dreams of getting that second chance at love and redeeming past mistakes.
I give this book:
