After fifteen long, dangerous years in the service, Navy SEAL Clay Pickett is ready for his new mission: build a model sustainable community and show the world an exciting alternative to a consumption-based life. If that means heโs got a deadline to find a wife in order to win the reality TV show thatโs filming his sustainable adventure, so be it. Heโs got just the woman for the job in mind: beautiful, dedicated Nora Ridgeway.
When Nora left her job as a school teacher in Baltimore to live a simpler, Jane Austen style life in Montana with her friends, she was relieved to escape the escalating threats of violence from an unknown student stalker, but she canโt help feeling sheโs abandoned the other high schoolers who put their faith in her. Sheโs torn about Clayโs advances, too. On the one hand sheโs never met anyone like the strong, sexy SEAL. On the other hand, lifeโs taught her to take relationships slowโand Clayโs on a deadline.
When arson strikes and Nora disappears, Clay knows heโll need every trick he learned in his time with the SEALs to track her down and save her life.
Can two people caught by their pasts have a chance at a future?

Excerpt:
Clay wrapped an arm around her waist, pulled her to him and explored her mouth with his, deepening the kiss until she clung to him, dizzy with the sensations swirling inside of her.
โWeโve got to take this slow,โ Nora gasped.
โSlow?โ Clay said. He searched her face. โWhat does that mean, exactly?โ His breathing was uneven. Nora knew he wanted her and knew she was close to giving in to him. She wanted it too. But how would she feel tomorrow?
โJust kissing.โ
Clay visibly struggled get himself under control. โThatโs a tall order,โ he confessed with a lopsided grin.
โI know.โ She hoped he had the self-control to pull it off. She wasnโt sure she did.
โJust kissing,โ he agreed after a moment. โBut a whole hell of a lot of it.โ
โThatโs perfect.โ As he bent toward her, she met him halfway.
An hour later, when Clay walked her to the manor, Nora was practically panting with the need to be made love to. She ached for Clayโs touchโwanted so badly to be with him.
โIโm never getting to sleep,โ Clay murmured in her ear when they paused outside the manorโs front door. โCan I at least think of you while Iโฆ you know?โ
โOnly if I can think of you,โ she said honestly. She couldnโt even pretend she wouldnโt do the same as soon as she was upstairs alone. No way could she sleep in this state.
โWe could help each other,โ Clay suggested.
โNo, we canโt,โ she said sadly.
โWhy not?โ He pressed another kiss to the base of her neck and Nora felt herself slipping, wanting to give in.
โBecause if you touch me much longer, Iโm going to beg you to take me,โ she confessed.
โI want to.โ
โI want you to, too.โ
โNoraโฆโ
She knew all that Clay wanted to say. This was crazy. It was agony. It wasnโt fair.
But it was the way it had to be. In the morning light theyโd still be at Westfield. Clay would still have to marry within two months. That still wouldnโt be long enough for them to really get to know each other.
Would it?

Mai, if I wasn’t a writer, I would be a landscape gardener. I love the idea of driving a backhoe and moving rocks around and making plain yards look beautiful. ๐

Hi momjane, that’s the first thing to draw me to a book, a great cover. Then if the blurb is good I’ll often read a page or two from the preview to get a sense of the author’s writing style. If I like it, I buy it and look forward to an enjoyable read. Have to admit I kind of miss the paperbacks though, now you have to search if you want to see the cover after opening the book. Oh well, technology, lol
Have a great day!
