I am so stoked, you guys! Guess who I have on the blog today? Cherry Freaking Adair!!

Cherry took time away from her crazy, busy schedule to sit down for a chat with little ol’ me 🙂 I know right? So cool!

Q: How long have you been writing, and was THE MERCENARY your first submission? Tell us a little bit about the road to your first publication?

Cherry:  I was writing for a loooong time before I sold THE MERCENARY. I wrote 17 complete (and dreadful!) books before The Mercenary sold. None of those books will ever see the light of day. All were ceremoniously shredded. I considered them practice runs and the dress rehearsal for the real thing . I learned the slow way that to achieve the goal of publication one can’t rest on ones laurels and sit by the phone waiting once a book is finished and mailed to a publisher. You have to keep writing. Keep submitting. Keep getting rejected. And keep hanging tough. Writing isn’t for sissies!

Q: What inspired you to write in the first place? The Romance Suspense genre is a little hard to write for most, so what made you choose this genre?

Cherry:  I’ve been writing since I was very young – young enough that I didn’t know how to write yet. I just made interesting squiggles on paper that I would then read to my mother .. Now I write what I love to read. (my handwriting and spelling haven’t improved much in the intervening years! Lol)

Q: You write strong, sexy heroes that can conquer any obstacle. Your heroines are strong too. Which gender is easier to write?

Cherry:  It depends on the character. Some are harder to write than others. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that I have to know each character really well before I can write them effectively.

Q: You have a very creative talent of writing Romance Suspense plots, and the action is nearly non-stop. Where do you get your ideas?

Cherry: Everywhere. Anywhere. I constantly snip ideas from newspapers or jot down something of interest on the evening news, or even a snippet of overheard conversation. I file everything away until I might need it. Or I’ll have an image of a guy with an eye patch sailing in rough seas and suddenly want to know why he’s wearing an eye patch, and where he’s going. (Michael Wright in IN TOO DEEP !)

Q: Do you have a certain writing schedule?

Cherry: Yes. I have to. It’s a job. I can’ wait for a muse to descend. I give myself a certain amount of pages per week. When they’re done – I’m done. Unfortunately I’m a s-l-o-w writer – so something that should take me a few hours can take all day! I’m working on that one.

Q: The question that readers always wonder is what a writer does when faced with the ‘dreaded writer’s block’. What is your solution, or do you even suffer from it at any time?

Cherry: You bet! I used to panic when I stared at the blinking curser on my screen. Now I know that somehow I zigged instead of zagged in the story. For some reason I’ve taken a wrong turn and hit a brick wall. I used to freak out. I’ve now come up with a way of plotting that’s almost always prevents that happening. Whew!

Q: How about outlines? How do you create your story before starting to actually write?

Cherry: I do a detailed outline. Always! Believe me, I’ve learned by mistakes! (Okay – it took me a long time – but it finally sank in !)

Q: You’re very active (and so much fun!) on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/CherryAdairAuthor.  Do any of your posters ever ask you about writing techniques, etc.? And do you give them advice?

Cherry: I mentor new writers all the time. I have a dozen Facebook groups just for them. Butt In Chair Challenge is one. Anyone is welcome to join. I ask that everyone report in once a week with their goal for the following week. I so enjoy kicking butts! lol

Q: Is there anything you would like to add, advice to readers and aspiring authors, any news to share? And Thank you, again!

Cherry: My best advice? Sit your butt down in that chair and WRITE. Give yourself a deadline to finish your book and stick to it. Read widely in your chosen genre, study your favorite authors. Attend classes and read ‘how to books’. Most of all write. As often, and as much, as you can. Then write down a career goal for yourself, with all the steps you’ll need to take to implement it.

No one said this was easy. But then what in life that’s worthwhile is?

And to my readers? Thank you from the bottom of my heart for loving my characters as much as I do. Knowing you’re out there reading what I love to write keeps me focused and hard working.

GENRE:  Action Adventure

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
In a situation this volatile, something is bound to blow!
Three. . .
T-FLAC operative Asher Daklin is running out of time in his race to end the production and sale of the word’s most deadly explosive before a cataclysmic terrorist event occurs. This op isn’t just his last chance at redemption, it’s deeply personal. Because of him, E-1x took his brother’s life and nearly incapacitated him. Now, with the timer counting down the remaining hours, he has to go deep under cover at the home of the mastermind producing the deadly explosive and stop him. Daklin can’t allow anything, or anyone, to distract him from his mission.
Two…
Lingerie designer River Sullivan is on a mission of her own—to find her genius brother. When millions of dollars are  inexplicably wired to her account she knows he’s trouble. Traveling to the small mining town of Los Santos, situated in the mountainous jungles of Cosio, she accepts the hospitality of her brother’s employer and searches for clues as to Oliver whereabouts. If only she wasn’t overcome with inappropriate lust for one of the other houseguests- a gorgeous bishop with a warriors body and laser-sharp eyes that hint at deep, dark secrets.
One!
River and Daklin find themselves in a race against time, hampered by staggering odds and overwhelming desire. Daklin has one final, desperate chance to prove himself, keep River safe, and save the day. . .
EXCERPT:
“Ash? I–I’m in a shitload of trouble.”
Holding the cell phone to his ear, gritting his teeth against knifelike stabs biting along the nerves of his shattered tibia, T-FLAC operative Asher Daklin flung his bum leg off the coffee table. He’d never heard that tone in his brother’s voice, and he went from stupor to full alert as his defense physiology kicked into high gear. As it did when he defused an explosive, his pulse slowed and his focus became pinpoint.
Hyper-alert, his voice calm and even, he speed-limped to the front door. “Where are you?” Swinging his coat over his bare chest, he shoved his Glock 41 Gen 5 in the back  of his sweatpants, then thought better of it and stuck it one of his jacket pockets. “How bad?”
By habit, his earpiece was in the bowl beside a full clip and his keys. He inserted the earpiece, then slipped the phone and clip into his other pocket. “Let me speak to your CO.” Like himself, Josh was an operative, though still a rookie, with barely a year in the field.
“I’m solo on this.”
Fuckit. A “shitload of trouble” could mean damn near anything when out in the field. Especially unsupervised. His brother could be anywhere.
