A visit from the bossy muse, a free book, and a couple of awards

One of my favorite authors, D. Wallace Peach has a #free book for you and a couple of well-deserved finalist awards to share. Oh, and you’re going to love her muse, lol

Myths of the Mirror

The muse’s latest look (pixabay compilation)

Way too early in the morning, my muse drops down beside me on my couch and tosses her hat onto the coffee table. The howler monkey that’s been riding her shoulder for a year leaps onto my kitchen counter, curls back its rubbery lips, and flashes a yellow-toothed grin. The muse hands me a latte. “Nice progress on the draft… finally.”

“Thanks.” I’m still leering at the monkey but manage to sip my latte. Yum. “So, why the visit?  You know I’m under NaNo pressure.” I somehow forget to mention that yesterday I logged zero words.

She arches an eyebrow but for once shrugs off her annoyance. “I’m running a promotion for a couple of days. Catling’s Bane is free today and Wednesday. Your sales blah blah blah…” I’m not listening. The howler’s opened my refrigerator and taken a bite from a head of…

Book Review- Been There, Married That by Gigi Levangie #WomensFic #Review

A hilarious novel full of Hollywood glitz, glamour, and scandal from New York Times bestselling author Gigi Levangie.

When he changes the locks, she changes the rules.

Agnes Murphy Nash is the perfect Hollywood wife – she has the right friends, the right clothes, and even a side career of her own as a writer. Her husband Trevor is a bigshot producer, and from the outside it looks like they’re living a picture-perfect celebrity life, complete with tennis tournaments and lavish parties.

But the job description of a Hollywood wife doesn’t cover divorce, which is the way Agnes’ life is headed after she comes home one day to find her credit cards cancelled and the security passwords to get into her enormous LA home changed. Oh, and there’s a guy there whose job it is to tase her if she tries to enter…which she does.

Needless to say, Agnes’ husband is dead set on making sure she loses big time, but Agnes isn’t the type to just lie down and take it. In a world of fremenies and hot nannies, personal psychics and “skinny” jello shots, Agnes may be losing her husband, but could that mean getting her own life back?

Been There, Married That is a drop-dead hilarious battle of wills that will make you laugh out loud, cringe, and keep turning the pages to see what crazy disaster will happen to Agnes next…and how she’ll rise from the ashes.

My Review

Smart, snarky humor blends with real life trauma in this Hollywood wives adaptation!

Agnes Murphy Nash thought she was living the dream; Hollywood producer husband, mansion in the hills, and socialite friends, until it all came crashing down with just one word- divorce.

Suddenly, she’s persona non grata at the swanky restaurants she’d practically made famous. The friends have disappeared into the woodwork, her credit cards have been canceled, the mansion is for sale. But worst of all, her ex is suing her for full custody of their beautiful child.

This means war.

It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a book so much. Agnes has plenty of reasons to curl up with a bottle of gin and the pharmaceutical of the day, but instead she’s a fighter and there is no way her no-good philandering husband (who she’d vowed to love forever) was going to win the battle.

Over her dead body.

Favorite Lines

Nothing bad can happen if you wear a scarf; it’s like garlic to vampires.

The day was hot and dry, the city in a drought that would never end, much like my divorce.

I give Been There, Married That 5+ lovely kisses- I’ll be looking for more of this writer’s work!

“I voluntarily read an ARC of this book which was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.”

Title: It’s In His Christmas Wish

Author: Shelly Alexander

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About It’s In His Christmas Wish:

About It’s In His Christmas Wish: Return to Red River–a beautiful mountain town in the southern Rockies, where the nights are cool and the romance is hot–one last time in this wonderful holiday romance that has as much heart as it does heat.

Maybe some wishes aren’t meant to come true.

Christmas is a hot button for Kimberly Perez, and not in a good way. Having grown up in the foster system, she’s as frugal as she is smart and can’t abide the materialism of the holidays. In an effort to use precious funds to help children in need instead of wasting money on meaningless commercialism, she pitches a new city ordinance to Red River’s town council that would cut all holiday decorations and festivities from the budget.

Ross Armstrong is determined to honor his late sister’s memory by continuing her love of all things Christmas in Red River. But to do so, he’s got to block the passing of a silly new law—and the person behind it—which would essentially ban Christmas altogether.

When their disagreement pits them against each other at a public town council meeting and splits Red River in half, the council chairperson forces them to work together on a new Red River holiday tradition—the Wishing Tree. Can they work together in the true spirit of the holidays, not only to reunite the town they love but to also cultivate the burgeoning feelings they have for each other. Or will their differences turn them into enemies and divide Red River forever?

A SPECIAL NOTE TO SHELLY’S READERS

Hello, my lovelies. As this–my first published series–comes to a close, I’m both excited to start new books set in a different location and sad that the wonderfully quirky characters who make up the heart of Red River will no longer be my focus when I sit down to write every day. Thank you for following this series from start to finish. It’s been a fantastic journey, and just like the characters in the books, there has been ups and there has been downs. But you all have stayed with me every step of the way, and for that I am eternally grateful. So, enjoy Ross and Kimberly’s heartwarming holiday story.
