#BookReview- A Good Day for Chardonnay by Darynda Jones #Suspense #amreading @Darynda

Book Description via Amazon.com

From the New York Times bestselling author Darynda Jones comes the second novel in her laugh-out-loud Sunshine Vicram mystery series, A Good Day for Chardonnay.

Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job. Sadly, full-time Sheriff—and even fuller-time coffee guzzler—Sunshine Vicram, didn’t get that memo.

All Sunshine really wants is one easy-going day. You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with take-out pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven). Turns out, that’s about as easy as switching to decaf. (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)

Before she can say iced mocha latte, Sunny’s got a bar fight gone bad, a teenage daughter hunting a serial killer and, oh yes, the still unresolved mystery of her own abduction years prior. All evidence points to a local distiller, a dangerous bad boy named Levi Ravinder, but Sun knows he’s not the villain of her story. Still, perhaps beneath it all, he possesses the keys to her disappearance. At the very least, beneath it all, he possesses a serious set of abs. She’s seen it. Once. Accidentally.

Between policing a town her hunky chief deputy calls four cents short of a nickel, that pesky crush she has on Levi which seems to grow exponentially every day, and an irascible raccoon that just doesn’t know when to quit, Sunny’s life is about to rocket to a whole new level of crazy.

Yep, definitely a good day for chardonnay.

My Review

This series just gets better and better!

Sheriff Sunshine (I LOVE that name!) Vicram has her hands full with a pesky raccoon, a smart and devious daughter, a possible octogenarian serial killer, and a man-sized crush on the mysterious Levi Ravinder, who may or may not, be part of her own abduction years ago.

Thanks to a quirky cast of memorable characters, the pages fly by- it’s nearly impossible to set this book down, so don’t say I didn’t warn you!

When a stranger with Ninja-like moves is accosted and stabbed at Levi’s bar, Levi runs to the rescue and gets hit by a truck for his efforts. Sunshine is called to the scene and immediately realizes there’s more to the story than either man wants to share.

Frustrated, she tries to arrest Levi for his own safety, but he disappears practically before the cuffs go on. With her best friend and chief deputy, Quincy, warning her to not jump to conclusions, and a child who went missing seven years earlier suddenly showing up in the middle of things, the plot gets thicker.

Meanwhile, Auri, Sunshine’s impulsive teenage daughter, recruits her boyfriend Cruz (I adore him!) and her best friend (who coincidentally has visions of her own death) to investigate a cold case in the town– and bites off more than she can handle.

There are a lot storylines merging in this book, but it’s all done so well that I never felt lost or confused. This is one of those books that you dread to see come to an end.

I can’t wait to see what Darynda comes up with next!

    1. You won’t regret it, Gwen! I’d suggest starting with the first in series, though, A Bad Day for Sunshine. That way you’ll gain a better insight into the characters.

  3. This is just ridiculous. I’ve been wondering why some of my regular blogging friends haven’t been blogging. Turns out, they have been. But WP unsubscribed me. I’ve been going around today, resubscribing. I’m sorry I’ve been MIA. I don’t know what’s going on with my account. (Insert irate grumbling here.)
