This week’s Sunday Stills challenge theme is ‘Love Your Pet.’ See more responses on Terri Webster Schrandt’s blog here.
Pets are a staple in nine out of ten households, and while dogs and cats are popular choices many families cherish a variety of other creatures such as chickens, llamas, bunnies, birds, gerbils, and even mice!
Above is a photo of Harley, our nine-year-old calico. She grew up with a German Shepherd for company and consequently thinks she’s our protector. We had to put a sign out front, Beware of Cat, lol.

People get a kick out of seeing Harley going for a walk by leash. She enjoys the time out of the yard and a good back scratch on the rocks!

Summers are spent outside soaking up the sun and watching the hummingbirds flit around our yard.

Lately, she’s taken to sitting in this odd way- funny girl 🙂
In response to this month’s Becky’s Squares challenge theme of ‘Odd.’ See more responses here.
And finally, this is our sweet Annie.

The man who owned her was going to have her put down because she was the rut of the litter and was extremely skittish. Bob couldn’t let that happen, so he brought her home and spent two days laying under our lilac tree in the backyard trying to gain her trust. She was just six months old, skinny, and frightened, but slowly, he won her over and she became his shadow for the next eight years.
We lost her near Christmas in 2019.
What gorgeous pets. That Annie–she is amazing. I’m so glad your husband took the time to give her trust. I was quite taken with Terri’s post also. Pets–nothing like them.

They give their love unconditionally. We could learn from them.

Oh aren’t they just such beauties! I love that Annie’s life was spared and she was able to come out of her shell! Harley looks like the boss and I’m glad she doesn’t try to get those Hummers!

Thank you, Wayne. Harley is actually pretty good with birds. She gets told off by the hummingbirds and takes it in stride, lol
Annie was an integral part of our family- we miss her still.

Aww, Annie was a beautiful girl, and the fact you rescued her was a gift from God that blessed all of you. We do a lot for our sweeties! Harley is incredible looking and looks very happy–like the Cheshire Cat! And he looks so soft and pettable! How cool he can walk on a leash. We can’t have cats here because the owls would swoop down and get them!

It’s eagles and hawks here. We can’t let her outside without one of us keeping an eagle eye out 🙂 for predators.

I’m so sorry about Annie, but I know she left paw prints on your heart, and was surely a steadfast companion for Harley. Beautiful pictures of both your girls!

Thanks, Denise. They were best friends. Harley was lost (as were we) for a long time after Annie passed away.

So true, Pete. For a long time after Annie was gone, I’d feel her presence in the bedroom with me. Hubby works late quite often and she was my comfort and protection while he was gone.

Thank you, Cathy. Harley (the cat) grew up on a harness walking with our Shepherd. They looked like Mutt and Jeff out there, lol

I think I may have told you already, but we have a tortie cat, too. She is the sweetest thing. Her name is Josie Pye. And our rough and tumble Cesare is our orange tabby. He’s my writing partner, you know. lol I call him the Chief of Cheesy Writing.

Thank you, Robbie. I’ve had a hard time letting Annie go, she stole my heart.
Hey, while I have you, I saw the video of the two male lions you took (AMAZING!), is it rare to see males together like that?

Hi Jacquie, I have never seen two male lions together like that and they were amazing, just like my two cats. The males do defend the territory and keep the females and cubs safe from dangers. So they do patrol.
