- Do you outline your books or wing it? Describe your process.
- I always create a brief basic outline of the major plot points and then I let the characters fill in the blanks as to how to get to those four major points.
- How do you decide on setting?
- The setting always comes after the characters start telling me the story. I don’t have a favorite place, except maybe Cambridge, England to set places. I love Cambridge so I tend to tie it into different stories. But typically I let the setting come naturally once I explore the characters and their stories.
- What genre(s) do you write in? Why?
- I write historical, contemporary, new adult, paranormal, and modern gothic. For me I want to write any and every genre that has a story worth telling, and I don’t mind crossing into new genres to do the story justice. It shakes things up and keeps readers trying new stories.
- What is your favorite part of writing?
- This is a two parter for me. The first thing I love is getting a cover! Man, do I love getting covers, it makes the book feel real! And the second part is getting the final book files back from my publisher and knowing the book is done and ready to be shared with my readers. I get so excited about knowing people will get to read it soon!
- What is your least favorite part of writing?
- It’s important and necessary but not fun. It’s like there are three things in life you can’t escape: death, taxes and editing.
- Some writers edit excessively as they write; others wait until a novel is finished to do the bulk of editing. How about you?
- I’m about half and half. I get a good rough draft and then go back in and flesh out emotions, descriptions and removing filler verbs and adjectives. But I don’t necessary cut out tons of what I’ve written before or any major edits. If anything, I’ll add scenes into a book during the editing process.
- What’s the strangest thing you have ever done in the name of research?
- The strangest and coolest thing was climbing into an underground crypt in a graveyard in an old Irish Church and touching a mummfied corpse of a well-born lady who’d died 400 years ago. They said it was good luck to rub her bony finger. This was the church where Bram Stoker grew up playing in as a child and where he was inspired to write Dracula.
- E-books, print, or both? Any preferences? Why?
- Audio! I actually love Audio the best because it leaves me hands free to fold laundry, do housework or exercise while still reading. I’m big for multi-tasking.
- Please tell us your experiences with social media. What are your favorite and least favorite parts of it?
- I love Facebook, hate Twitter and am slowly figuring out Instragram. I love social media for connecting with fans, but I don’t like the time it takes to be active. I work as an attorney too and am trying to write as much as I can and social media can be a huge vacuum for time so I have to be careful and not waste it when I go online.
- What do you read?
- I’ll read anything once! I love trying different books, genres and styles outside of romance because those other books can enrich my own writing.
- Do you read different genres when you’re writing versus not writing?
- It depends. Sometimes I like to breeze through a book by a talented author in the genre I’m writing to remind me what a good book feels like, other times I like to stay away from what I’m writing. So I might read about sexy aliens while I’m writing a historical.
- What event would you call your breakthrough as an author?
- I wouldn’t say I’ve had a breakthrough career-wise yet, I’m still a newer author and working toward hitting a bigger list. But I believe I had a breakthrough when I was able to discover some good key promotional concepts on how to promote series books with price dropping and I was able to hit #6 on Barnes and Noble and 19 on Amazon’s Best Seller’s Lists.

- What’s your favorite Disney film?
Sleeping Beauty. I am in love with Prince Phillip and I think Aurora is so lovely. Who doesn’t want to fall in love with someone in their dreams?
