Christmas with a Prince
Noelle Adams
(Rothman Royals, #4)
Publication date: November 29th 2017
Genres: Adult, Romance

I might be a former party girl and the over-indulged daughter of a multi-millionaire, but for the last few years I’ve been trying to be work hard and be good. I have enough right now to deal with–graduate school, my community literacy program, preparations for Christmas, and my dad’s constant attempts to find me a husband. I definitely don’t want to put up with Henry always hanging around, acting obnoxious and looking far too sexy.

My boss forced me to take on Henry as a literacy volunteer for the month of December. I don’t know anything about him except he’s from somewhere in Europe, and he’s spoiled, entitled, arrogant, stubborn… and incredibly hot. He’s the kind of guy I’ve been trying to stay away from. Plus he’s got a secret–something he’s hiding from me.

Now I can’t think of anything but him, and I’m stuck with him until Christmas is over.

EXCERPT:

I tried—very hard—not to feel an amused satisfaction at the look on Henry’s face as he saw the task in front of him.

“You think I have time to do it all?”

“Why wouldn’t you? Unless you’re planning to waste time while you’re here.” I remembered I was supposed to be nice to him now and tempered my tone with a smile. “I’m sure you’re not. You’ll get through them in no time.”

His eyes narrowed again in that suspicious way, as if he thought I might have questionable motives. “Why are you being nice to me today?”

I stiffened my shoulders. “Why wouldn’t I be nice?”

“You weren’t nice yesterday.”

This was unfortunately true, and I felt guilty about it. “I’m sorry about yesterday. I was… I didn’t know who you were, and I overreacted.”

If anything, his expression looked even more suspicious than it had before. “And you know who I am now?”

I frowned in confusion. “Of course I know who you are. Marcus told me you were authorized. You’re not some creep who came in off the street to get close to the kids.”

His face relaxed slightly but not all the way. “I see.”

I felt even more confused, rattled in a way that wasn’t normal for me. I didn’t like it. I gave him a little scowl. “Why are you being weird?”

“I’m not being weird.” He spoke the last word with care, as if he weren’t used to saying it.

“Yes, you are being weird. You seemed to like it yesterday when I was rude to you, and now you’re all stiff and off-putting because I’m trying to be nice.”

“I’m not off-putting.” He was relaxing even more now, that little smile on the corner of his mouth making those adorable creases.

I scowled even more. “Yes, you are. Do you have a problem with people being nice to you?”

“Only if they have ulterior motives.”

I gasped. “What possible motive could I have to be nice to you, other than being a decent person? Maybe you’re not used to being around decent people, but there are a few of us out there. If I want to be nice, I’ll be nice. I don’t have to have a motive for it.”

He was back to yesterday’s mood now. His eyes were laughing and appreciative both. As if I amused him and he also liked what he saw. “You’re not being very nice now,” he drawled.

“Well, I would if you’d let me. I find it very hard to be nice to obnoxious people.”

“And you think I’m obnoxious?”

He was teasing me. I knew it, and I also knew I shouldn’t play along. But I couldn’t seem to help it. “Of course you’re being obnoxious. I can’t be the only person who’s ever told you that.”

“You actually are. Almost everyone likes me.”

“That can’t possibly be true.”

Character Interview with Oliver from

A GIFT FOR SANTA

Today, we’re talking with Oliver Gray, owner of a reindeer farm in Alaska. Oliver, how do you make a living as a reindeer farmer?

Tourism, mostly. In the summer, people come out to visit the farm. We have goats, rabbits, chickens, and a pig as well as the reindeer for the children to interact with, and we have a nice picnic area over by the barn.

This time of year, we do Christmas parties, with reindeer rides and an appearance by Santa Claus.

Can you tell us what led you to start your reindeer farm?

My wife, Becky, and I were living in downtown Anchorage, working office jobs, and one of our neighbors was Star the Reindeer. You know about Star? The reindeer who lives in downtown Anchorage and goes for walks around town and along the park strip? Well Becky and I got to be friends with Mrs. Stewart, Star’s owner. We’d go along on their walks and talk with the kids who gathered to pet Star. Now I was only thirty-seven, but my beard was already turning white, and one day one of the kids asked if I was Santa Claus. I looked at Becky, and I could see she was thinking the same thing I was. You see, we couldn’t have children of our own, but this would be a way to share the magic with all sorts of children. So we quit our jobs, found some land for sale, and started the reindeer farm.

Guest Post - It's All About the Romance

Where did you get your reindeer?

Becky and I made a trip to Norway to talk to some of the reindeer herders there, and once we got to know them, they offered us breeding stock for a good price. Of course, getting the reindeer from Norway to Anchorage wasn’t cheap or easy, but we imported two bulls and ten cows, and our herd has grown from that start.

You took a risk. Do you ever wish you you’d stayed with those office jobs?

Not for a minute. It’s been almost thirty years since we started the farm, and I can honestly say I’ve never regretted it. There were struggles, certainly, but overall the reindeer farm has been the third greatest blessing of my life.

Third greatest?

Well, the first is my wife, Becky, the most wonderful partner a man could ever have. Second is Marissa, our niece, who came to live with us when she was ten. She loved growing up on the farm and taking care of the reindeer and other animals. In fact, she loved animals so much, she grew up to be a wildlife biologist.

Guest Post - It's All About the Romance 2

Is Marissa still active on the farm?

Well, she’s here now, taking care of the animals and playing an elf at the parties. I’m having some health problems, you see, and Marissa had a bit of a career setback thanks to that rat she was dating at her old job. Lying, thieving – never mind. Anyway, I’m sure it will all get straightened out soon.

In the meantime, since I can’t play my usual role of Santa Claus, Chris Allen is filling in. Good man, Chris. He and Marissa used to be engaged a long time ago, but they had a falling out. I’m not sure what it was all about, but I know she’s been avoiding him ever since. It’s a miracle Marissa agreed to work with Chris at all. But then, I’ve always said Christmas is the season for miracles. Maybe, before it’s all said and done, we can count on a few more.

The Benefits of a Writer’s Group

A few months ago Mimi Barbour, creator of The Authors’ Billboard, a group of over thirty bestselling romance writers, came up with the ingenious idea of setting up box sets varying in size from six to eight books and enrolling them into the Kindle Select program.

The hope was to gain new readers, and of course sales, of our individual books. We started out with two or three sets, just to see how they would do.

books-1900467_640

There was such a fantastic response from our readers, three more followed. Then three more, then… well, you get the picture 🙂

As quick as we could put them together, they were getting read; to the tune of millions of pages read (Kindle Select’s method of determining how much to pay authors from a fund Amazon adds to each month)

http://akreport.com/amazon-kenp-rates/

It has proven to be a snowball effect, benefiting the group in ways we never expected.

We’ve become stronger as a group.

Friends who have each other’s backs. We support and promote new releases. Celebrate achievements. Share information. Build on our successes. And commiserate our failures.

No matter what, we know there’s someone who will listen when we need advice.

If you ever get the opportunity to join a writer’s group, I highly recommend giving it a try!

If you’d like to meet our group and have some fun at the same time, stop by November 29-30 at our 2nd Annual Christmas Bash on Facebook. There’ll be plenty of chatting, games, and giveaways! You don’t want to miss the party, we’d love to meet you there!

Undercover Attraction Excerpt

Copyright © 2017 Katee Robert

His brows slanted down, and then his expression cleared. “You’re worried about me? Bright eyes, you don’t have to be.”

Either he was lying to make her feel better or he’d missed the cold calculation in Alethea’s eyes when she’d watched them walk out. If he didn’t dance to the tune she set, she would have no problem killing him. She wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep at night over it.

Charlie gripped his hand tighter. “Promise me.”

“You know I can’t. I’ll do whatever it takes to see this through, and if that means getting into another situation like the one we just left, I won’t hesitate.”

She wanted to shake the stubbornness right out of him. “Even if it means you don’t walk out alive?”

He started to give her a pat answer. She saw the second he registered that she was actually scared for him—not herself. The mask slipped, and something like wonder dawned. Aiden pulled her into his lap and framed her face with his hands. “The end justifies the means. You know that.”

She’d thought the same thing earlier. Now she wasn’t so sure.

But he wasn’t going to listen to her tonight. Either he hadn’t seen the danger or he was determined to downplay it. If she kept pressing, it might mean a fight, and that was the last thing Charlie wanted. She’d never been more aware of time flowing, a river that she couldn’t fight. Aiden wasn’t hers. She couldn’t protect him. She didn’t even have a real right to demand he take more precautions. She was just a woman whose aims had lined up with his.

“Charlie—”

She kissed him. There wasn’t anything left to say that they couldn’t communicate with their bodies. She shifted to straddle him, the move making her dress ride up to indecent heights. All Aiden’s careful control was gone in an instant, replaced by a frenzy that matched her own. He slid his hands up her thighs to her hips, pushing the dress even higher, and grabbed her ass, grinding her against him.

All her fear and anger turned to desire, creating an inferno bound to incinerate them both. She could care less. Charlie reached between them and undid his slacks to pull out his cock. She palmed him. “Condom?”

He opened his mouth and then considered. “Fuck, I don’t have any.”

Damn. Disappointment soured in her stomach, but she shoved it away. “Then I guess we’ll have to get creative. I need you inside me. I don’t care how.” She pushed away his hands and slid down the seat to kneel between his thighs.

Or she tried to.

He caught her halfway through the move and shook his head. “No, bright eyes.”

“What?” Surely he wasn’t rejecting a blow job? That had to break some kind of international law. It just wasn’t done. “You’re starting to give me a complex.”

Aiden lifted her back to his lap, this time facing away from him. The passing lights showed her reflection in the glass separating them from the front seat. Her blue eyes were wild, her hair tangled from his fingers, her dress in danger of slipping off her breasts. Behind her, Aiden was barely a shadow. He moved her hair to one side and kissed her neck. “You come first, bright eyes. Second, too, if I have any say in it.”

She licked her lips. “One of these days, I’m going to tie you down and give you all the blow jobs I’ve been craving.”

“One of these days…” He bracketed her throat with one hand, keeping her head tilted to the side, and coasted the other hand up her inner thigh, spreading her legs further. “One of these days, I’ll let you.”

She nodded. “Good answer.” The move increased the pressure of his hand against her neck, and she squirmed, turned on far more than she should be.

His wandering hand reached the junction between her thighs, and he parted her, idly stroking. “I think I like that you’re worried about me.” His finger circled her clit and away. “I like it a lot.”

“Mmm.” What was she supposed to say to that? She’d already had to face the fact that she didn’t have the right words because she didn’t have the right.

His finger pushed into her slowly. “I won’t be without a condom again, bright eyes. Feeling you so hot and wet around my finger makes me crave the same around my cock.” He pumped as idly as he’d touched her to begin with. “A woman like you could make a man forget himself.”

It was hard to think, with his hard body behind her, his erection pressing against her ass, and his hand moving between her legs. She tried despite that. “Only for a while.”

“No, bright eyes. Not just for a while.” He dragged his mouth down the line of her shoulder. “When I’m inside you, all I can think of is you. When I’m near you, all I can think of is getting inside you again. If you gave me half a chance, I’d be buried to the hilt right now, condom be damned. That’s crazy.

She rocked against his hand, letting her head fall back to rest on his shoulder. He let go of her throat. The only warning she got was his thumb brushing her sternum and then he pushed down her dress, baring her breasts completely. Aiden cursed. “Next time you forget such a vital part of your wardrobe, the moment I find out, I’m going to fuck you. I might give you the option of dragging you to the nearest bathroom…if you’re lucky.”

By the time Logan pulled up in front of Tess’s house, she was warm, full, tired, and happy. “I had a great time today.”

“I did too,” he said with a smile. “Thanks again for inviting me.”

“Any chance you’d like to do it again sometime soon?”she asked. “You’re a worthy ski partner, and I had fun with you.”

“Yeah, I’d like that,” he said. “But next time, I pay for my lift ticket.”

“Deal. Sometime next week?”

“Sure. Give me a call, we’ll work out a time.”

“Well, you have a job with a real schedule. Right now, I don’t. I’m free as a bird. So you give me a call.”

His eyes held hers as he said, “Okay. I’ll do that. You’re on. Got yourself a ski buddy.”

God, she wanted to kiss him. Sitting so close in the warmth of his truck, he smelled good and his eyes were intense and his mouth was inviting and she wanted to kiss him so bad. But this new friendship—all the things they’d revealed to each other that day—she didn’t want to cross any lines or mess it up. For now, she’d hold back.

But still couldn’t resist flirting a little bit. “So,” she said boldly. “Are you coming in to soak in my tub or what? The offer stands.”

His gaze turned hot, a full-out smolder that made her belly do a wobbly flip. “The offer is more tempting than you know.” His voice had dropped low and dead sexy, making her shiver. “But I think I’d better head home for tonight.”

They stared at each other for a moment, pure electricity crackling between them. She could feel her blood in her veins, racing now, hot and needing, as his eyes lowered to her mouth for a few seconds before lifting to meet her gaze again. “You sure?” she asked. Her heart thumped in heavy beats.

“Only so much temptation a man can take,” he murmured. “And you’re testing my limits as it is, Tess. You have to know that.”

“I didn’t know that.”

“Well . . .”

She leaned in, her face so close to his that she could feel his hot breath feather against her lips.

“Tess.” He whispered it as a protest, but his eyes gave him away. He wanted her too, she could see it all over his face.

She closed the distance between them, pressing her mouth to his. It was a brush of her lips against his, just the slightest touch. But his hand lifted to cup the back of her neck and hold her there. He took control of the kiss, gently but surely, slanting his mouth over hers to take more of what he wanted. Her mouth opened with a little sigh as their tongues met and swirled slowly. As they leaned into each other, his fingers threaded through her hair and his other hand came up, cradling her head in his hands as his mouth consumed hers.

Her senses reeled. His full beard tickled her face, surprisingly soft against her skin. The feel of his mouth on hers, his hands in her hair, his big, warm body so close . . .her head swam with it all. He deepened the kiss and groaned softly into her mouth, and she was lost. She surrendered willingly, kissing him back with the same slow, sensual pace he’d set, her fingers clutched in his ski jacket. She could have kissed him for days.

He broke away slowly, leaning his forehead against hers, eyes still closed. “Jesus,” he whispered. When his eyes opened to focus on her, they were heavy lidded with lust. “You . . . you better go inside now.”

Still catching her breath, she touched his cheek. “You sure you don’t want to come in?”

“I do want to,” he said, his voice thick. “Too much. So I’m not going to.”

She pulled back, trying to hide her disappointment. “Okay.”

“Tess . . .” He stared at her, his mouth opening and closing as he fought with what he wanted to say. “You’re an amazing woman. I like that we’re . . . kind of friends now. Let’s try to stick with that for now, okay?”

The disappointment sharpened in her gut, but she pasted on a smile. “Fine.”

“Ah crap. No, no, don’t say fine,” Logan demanded gently. “When a woman says fine, it’s never fine. Even a loner lumberjack like me knows that.”

She couldn’t help but giggle.

“Tess, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” he said earnestly. “Don’t think for a second that I wouldn’t love to go inside with you right now, because I would. But you have an agenda, you’re gearing up to go through some medical . . . stuff . . . and I don’t want to get in the way of that.”

She gaped at him in shock. “I . . . I don’t know what one thing has to do with the other.”

“You have big plans,” he murmured, trailing the backs of his fingers along her cheek, eyes locked with hers. “I’d be a distraction. You said it yourself, you don’t want any distractions right now.” His gaze turned wicked and hot as he added, “I promise you, it’d be a fantastic distraction. A sexy, fun, passionate distraction . . . but this friendship we’ve started? Means more.”

“We’re attracted to each other,” she said flatly.

“Can’t deny that.” He touched his mouth to hers again, a light brush of his lips, and her whole body shuddered. “But I shouldn’t go inside with you. Not tonight.”

Her nerves jangled, every nerve ending alight and aware of him. Her heart beat hard and fast as she nuzzled into his palm, stared right into his eyes, and whispered, “If you insist.”

“I do,” he said, not breaking their gaze. “C’mon, you know I’m right. Last thing you need right now is us starting something up like this. Didn’t you tell me your first doctor

appointment is tomorrow?”

She didn’t like it, and wasn’t sure she fully agreed with it, but had to admit she’d thought along those lines herself before his kisses had turned her brain to mush and her insides to jelly. With a heavy sigh, she nodded and pulled back from him. “Pretty early, in fact. I should go inside and get into bed.”

Logan growled, his head falling back against the leather seat. “Had to put an image like that in my head right before you leave. You, climbing into bed . . . not nice, Tess. Not nice.”

She laughed lightly, and he grinned back at her. Their eyes held for a long beat and she took a slow, deep breath, exhaling it before she said, “Good night, Logan. Thanks again for a great day.”

“Back at you,” he said. “Good night, Tess. Sleep well. Good luck tomorrow.”

With a sweet smile, she climbed out of his truck and into the cold night.

My Review

This was a recommended read from one of my favorite authors, Kristan Higgins, and I’m so glad I picked it up!

Riley Sinclair is the epitome of a tom-boy, she runs a construction company (and likes to get her hands dirty), plays baseball and is a fierce competitor, and is more comfortable in coveralls and a hardhat than she is in a dress.

All of that changes though when she catches a glimpse of the business suit across the street from one of her jobs. She falls instantly in lust and dreams of a way to attract the heartthrob. At the same time, her annoying, pain-in-the-butt, incredibly sexy rival, Hudson Parker, complicates matters by challenging her on every level, especially the bedroom!

Talk about a Hot Mess.

In steps her friends and a makeover app designed by the star of Hot Mess, Delilah Cole. What ensues next is a hilarious, yet endearing set of mishaps that will have you rooting for Riley and hoping she sees the light before she lets the right man slip way!

I give Between a Rock and a Hot Mess 5 lovely kisses- A fun read!

Excerpt:

I hit something, bounced, scraped, and finally landed with a thud that rattled my whole body.

I lay in the dark, blinded, my head ringing, pain washing over me in great waves. My lungs screamed for air, but it seemed like I’d forgotten how to breathe.

Finally I dragged in a breath. I closed my eyes and focused on breathing, waiting for the world to settle into place.

Rain misted my face, so I must be lying on my back. My head felt heavier than my feet. I shifted and realized I was lying on a slope with my head pointing down.

I tried to concentrate on those little details. I couldn’t handle anything more. Panic fluttered around me, but I refused to think about anything but the present moment. I flexed my fingers. When that worked, I moved my hands over my body, up to my face. My head throbbed, but when I felt around my skull, I didn’t find any serious damage.

I had to move. The thought battered at the back of my mind, a panicky whisper that I tried to ignore. I had to run. Hide. He was after me. I had to get away.

I clenched my teeth hard, as if I could bite back the pain and fear. Memories crowded in, like panicked ghosts wailing at the edges of my mind. Guns, strange men. Dangerous, threatening men. Danesh trying to protect me, the gun going off. My own helpless, panicked flight. Helpless. Worthless. Unable to fight, unable even to scream.

I tried to focus on this one moment, the physical sensations of my aching body as I lay on the hard, damp ground. The cold against my bare calves, the lump of rock pressing into my shoulder. That focus helped keep me grounded in the present. Never mind that this present wasn’t a place I wanted to be. I had to deal with reality. But I didn’t have to also deal with nightmares. Not now.

The little whimpers in my throat faded to short gasping breaths. I held on to this moment, this single slice of reality. Now to move forward. I didn’t have to like it, but I had to do it. One step at a time.

More Than A Lawman by Anna J. Stewart #BookReview @RomSuspense @AJStewartWriter

A journalist and a sexy detective team up to catch a serial killer in USA TODAY bestselling author Anna J. Stewart’s new romance!

Haunted by the death of her childhood friend, journalist Eden St. Claire has dedicated her life to catching serial killers–and she’s always done so alone. But when the lethal murderer Eden is tracking puts her in danger’s crosshairs, she agrees to accept protection from longtime friend Detective Cole Delaney.

Cole has secretly carried a torch for Eden for years. She might not want to let anybody in, but the thought of losing her is unbearable. Passions flare as the threats intensify. Can Cole convince Eden to break her own rule to never fall in love…before the killer snuffs out their happily-ever-after?

“Anna J. Stewart’s page-turning romantic suspense debut is a pitch-perfect blend of romance and suspense. With a smart, engaging heroine and a sexy cop hero, what’s not to love? Fun and suspenseful,MORE THAN A LAWMAN rocks.”~NYTimes Bestselling Author Allison Brennan

Anna J. Stewart

A geek at heart, USA TODAY and national bestselling author Anna J Stewart writes “refreshingly unique, quietly humorous, and profoundly moving romance” (RT Book Reviews) including the Butterfly Harbor series for Harlequin Heartwarming, the HONOR BOUND series for Harlequin Romantic Suspense, and The Tremayne Family romances.

NYTimes bestselling author Brenda Novak says “The talented Anna J Stewart delivers every time!” Anna lives in Northern California where she deals with a serious Star Trek, Supernatural, and Sherlock addiction, surrounds herself with friends and family and tolerates an overly affectionate cat named Snickers (or perhaps it’s Snickers who tolerates her). Visit her online at http://www.authorannastewart.com

My Review

I first met Anna J. Stewart online with her work involvement in Brenda Novak’s yearly auction to raise funds for Diabetes Research (something that has affected my family as well). I won a fifty page critique by a famous author, I won’t say who because that doesn’t matter, but she failed to follow through with her promise. Instead, Anna, who was already crazy busy writing her own novel as well as coordinating the auction and who knows what else, took on the job!

I tell you this because I wanted you to know the type of person she is; kind, caring, and a giver. This shines through in her writing style.

More Than a Lawman opens with a bang and doesn’t let off for the entire book. Eden St. Claire is a journalist on the hunt for the killer. She’s dedicated her life to shining the spotlight on serial killers in the hopes one day she’ll find the person who murdered her childhood friend.

Cole Delaney appointed himself her protector when they were still children and has watched over her ever since. When Eden is taken by a suspected killer and found hanging, barely conscious, in a meat locker along with eight dead bodies, his emotions swamp him and he knows he’s in love.

Now it’s to keep her alive long enough for them to stand a chance!

I give More Than a Lawman 5 lovely kisses and look forward to reading the rest in the series!

More about the book:

If her husband turns up alive—she’ll kill him!
Explaining to the seriously sexy cop why she hasn’t noticed her husband has been missing for three days is both embarrassing and sobering. But the day Fiona Rowland lifts her head above the churning chaos of kids, carpools, and a million things to do, annoyance turns to fury…then to worry. Where is Stanley?
Having one of those wake-up-and-smell-the-coffee moments changes the way a woman looks at things: marriage, money, family, and friends. And when her best pal from high school arrives (packing her own secrets) to lend support, it turns out even the past isn’t quite what it seems. Scrambling to make sense of the drama unfolding, Fiona discovers there’s an upside to having your whole world turned upside down. It’s easier to grab the good stuff.

A delightful mixture of women’s fiction, chick-lit, romantic comedy, and mystery, Finding Fiona has something for every reader. The discussion questions included at the back of the book make this the perfect novel for book clubs and reader groups.

Excerpt from FINDING FIONA:

Later that evening, she went up the stairs with a glass of merlot in hand. She loved this time of night. The errands had been run, the chores were finished, the kids were settled, the house was quiet, and she could change into her soft jersey pj’s and slip between the sheets with a good book. She could count this as another successful day. The only thing keeping it from being perfect was that Stan had missed spending time with the kids at dinner.

On her way down the hall, she stopped to look in on Sam.

“Don’t stay up too late,” she warned.

“I won’t.”

“You finish all your homework?”

His eyes didn’t budge from the TV screen. “All done.”

“Okay.” She looked at him in silence, unable to believe he was already as tall as his father. Nearly all grown up. “Turn that off soon.”

Impatience flashed in his grayish blue eyes. “All right, already.”

Fiona chuckled. “You know my primary objective is to annoy you, right?”

He shook his head, offered her a half smile, then gazed back at the video game as he murmured, “’Night, Mom. Love you.”

“Right back at you. Good night, honey.”

The door of Cassie’s bedroom was closed, so Fiona knocked softly.

Entrez!” French was one of Cassie’s favorite subjects.

“Hey, there.” Fiona offered her daughter a smile when she twisted around in her desk chair. “I was going to bed and wanted to say good-night. But I just realized I didn’t ask how study group went. Is everything all lined up for the project?”

Cassie sighed, the impatience in her expression making Fiona feel she was looking in a mirror. It was peculiar how her daughter had taken after her, from the golden-brown hair and the hazel eyes to the slightly upturned nose and long fingers. Sam, on the other hand, had inherited his father’s auburn hair, thick and burnished, and his expressive steel-blue eyes.

“Emily didn’t bring her stuff, as usual,” Cassie said. “I’m searching for her information now. But we’ll be ready.”

“Hon, I wanted to talk to you about Emily.”

Fiona remembered how her own self-esteem had been affected by having a best friend who’d been more physically developed than she. Fiona had spent years feeling inadequate. She didn’t like the thought of Cassie viewing herself as somehow lacking simply because her hormones hadn’t fully kicked in yet. Seemed a mother-daughter discussion might be called for.

Excitement danced in Cassie’s eyes. “Oh, everything’s okay, Mom. We talked after study group. Emily said that after I left school today, Johnny was asking her about me.” Cassie grinned. “Way cool, huh?”

It took Fiona a fraction of a second to realize her daughter wasn’t in need of a bolstering lecture on her sense of self-worth. “Yes, sweetie,” she said softly. “That is way cool. ’Night.”

“Love you, Mom.”

“Love you, too.”

Alone in her room, Fiona set her wineglass on the night-stand, moved the pillow shams to the chair, pulled down the spread, and folded it neatly at the foot of the bed. She tugged down the bed linens, made herself comfortable, tucked the blankets around her, and then reached for the new paperback she’d just bought, a cozy murder mystery sporting a calico cat on the cover. She was reading page one when Sam arrived at her door.

“I forgot about these.” He came to the side of the bed and thrust several papers at her. “Coach said the school’s insurance company needs signatures from both parents. You need to get Dad to sign ’em when he gets home.”

“His poker games usually run pretty late, but I’ll try to wait up for him.”

Oh, there’d be no trying about it. Fiona planned to wait up, all right. She wanted to know why Stan had missed their family dinner. If he didn’t have a good excuse, he was in for an earful, new clients joining the firm or not.

“You both need to sign,” her son repeated. “Or I don’t get to run in the next meet.”

“I understand.”

Alone once again, Fiona took a deep drink of her wine, set the glass aside, snuggled down into the pillow, and opened the novel. She yawned. Every night of the week, it seemed, she went to bed exhausted, but Tuesdays were especially grueling.

The words on the page quickly began to blur.

*  *  *

Fiona awoke with a slow, deep inhalation. Stretching her legs, she opened her eyes, and blinked several times. She felt as if she’d only closed them for a few minutes, yet sunlight poured through the window. Adrenaline shot through her as her gaze zipped to the clock. Damn.

Throwing back the covers, she sat up on the edge of the mattress. Everyone was going to be late.

“Stan! Cassie! Sam!” she called. “Get up. We’ve overslept.”

She was out of bed and at the bedroom door, intending to rouse the kids, when her steps slowed. The room felt oddly empty. She whirled around on her heel.

Stanley’s side of the bed hadn’t been slept in. The insurance papers that Sam needed to have signed still sat on the pillow, undisturbed. Her stomach went queasy.

Something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong.

About Toni Anderson

New York Times and USA Today international bestselling author, Toni Anderson, writes dark, gritty Romantic Suspense novels that have hit #1 in Barnes & Noble’s Nook store, the Top 10 in Amazon and Kobo stores, and the Top 50 in iBooks. Her novels have won many awards. A former Marine Biologist from Britain, she inexplicably ended up in the geographical center of North America, about as far from the ocean as it is possible to get. She now lives in the Canadian prairies with her Irish husband and two children and spends most of her time complaining about the weather.

Toni has no explanation for her oft-times dark imagination, and only hopes the romance makes up for it. She’s addicted to reading, dogs, tea, and chocolate.

Driving Whiskey Wild is a captivating story of healing, trust, and finding everlasting love in the most unlikely places.

Special Forces veteran and Dark Knights Motorcycle Club member Bullet Whiskey lives to protect his family, their bar, and the residents of his small hometown. He’s rough, unapologetic, and haunted by a secret, painful past. He’s also a master at keeping people away, and when his sister hires gorgeous and sweet Finlay Wilson to help expand their biker bar, he knows just how to get rid of her.

After losing her boyfriend and her father, Finlay moves back to her hometown to be closer to the little family she has left. She needs her temporary job at Whiskey Bro’s to get her catering business off the ground, and she’s determined not to let the gruff, arrogant mountain of a man Bullet Whiskey scare her off.

Finlay is everything Bullet has never wanted. She’s afraid of his dog, afraid of motorcycles, and sweet enough to give him cavities, but as she weaves her way into the hearts of everyone around him, he’s powerless to resist her charms.
