What is your new normal?

Life has changed for all of us. Whether we like it or not, Covid-19 is an eyeopener. It shows that humans aren’t as invincible as we’d like to believe.

Like many others, I’ve been struggling to get my bearings. Half the time, I feel like a balloon floating in the sky with no real direction.

I’m stressed on so many levels:

Is it too soon to open up the economy?

How will we recover if we don’t reopen?

How many more lives will be lost?

Is my family safe?

My pet?

Me?

I’m sure these worries are running through our Prime Minister’s head, as well. I can’t imagine having to make the decisions he’s forced to do, and I thank him and all first line responders for all that they do to keep our country going.

My Mom lives next door in our RV park and took a fall in the early hours of Mother’s Day. I guess she called and called for help, but I didn’t hear her until a kind neighbor came and knocked on our trailer. I feel so horrible about that.

She’s in hospital now, and will be for quite a while. There’s liquid in her lungs which they removed with a giant needle (her words). They’re running all kinds of tests to find out why she’s so weak. Of course, I’m not allowed to visit due to Covid rules, but did manage to do a drop off of her cell phone charger and Kindle. A huge plastic shield greeted me just inside the doors and a health tech took my care bag from there.

I have a book deadline looming and have never felt less like writing.

I think these guys say it all

How about you? Are you coping all right? Feeling blue? Let’s chat…

P.S.

Here’s something that does make me happy- nature.

  1. I hope your mother feels better soon, Jacqui! Times sure feel weird and this morning it finally hit me that nothing will ever be the same again. So all we can do is adapt to the changes. Hang in there!

  2. I’m so sorry about your mother’s fall. I know it doesn’t help that you can’t be there but at least we can pray she will be okay. I guess an extra prayer for you to feel more at peace wouldn’t hurt either. Hugs, Jacquie.

  3. So sorry about your mum, Jacquie and not being able to visit her has to be difficult. Now she has her phone maybe you guys can face time. I too feel happiest when I’m around nature and around my daughters whom have not acknowledged me in two years. Since the Covid 19 it upsets me that they have not reached out or even Wordered how I’m doing. They are on my mind daily. I have a lot of anxiety since all this began and I worry I may never see my daughters again BUT I have to remain hopeful and positive because I have had too many miserable years. All the best to you and your family and your pet(s) my friend. ❤️

  4. It’s so hard to concentrate when we’re upset about a loved one. Not being able to see and comfort your mom makes it all the harder. When I went through a series of things with my mom as her health declined, it’s an odd feeling when everything else in life keeps going like a rat on a wheel. I sure hope you get some good news about your mom soon.

    1. That’s exactly right, Pete. I want to set everything aside and concentrate on her, but the obligations don’t disappear just because we want them to.
      Like hubby said, if only there was a way to back up time to when our loved ones were safe and healthy. {{hugs}}

  5. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she recovers quickly. I wouldn’t want to be making the decisions right now, either. It is hard to focus and write, I agree. It’s a lot to process with an unknown outcome. Sending lots of hugs xo

  6. The picture with the bee is beautiful, Jacquie. Just glorious.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom and your worries. I can relate a little because my dad is in a long term nursing home and he fell last night. I haven’t been able to see him since January (was scheduled to travel there in February, then March when no visitors were allowed). I actually need to call and check on him now.

I hope your mother starts feeling better soon and can come home and rest. What helps me the most is just taking everything day by day. If I think out further than that, I get anxious and completely overwhelmed. Thinking of you and your mom. ♥️

    1. That’s great advice, Jennifer. I’m so sorry for you and your dad. I will send a prayer up that he wasn’t seriously hurt and stays safe in these crazy times.
      Thank goodness for cell phones!

  7. Oh, Jacquie. I’m so sorry to hear about your mother. I will add her to my prayers.

This is such a horrible time. Because it’s unprecedented, we’re all wondering what to do. I have to believe we’ll all get through this better and stronger for having endured it.

  8. Oh, Jacquie, I am so sorry to hear the news about your mom. I pray she’s able to come home soon. These are scary, stressful times and I know worrying about your mom has to be compounding your anxiety. I keep hoping (and praying) if we hold the course we’ll come out of this and rebound. I’ve only recently started writing again. The whole situation has sapped my emotional and creative energy so I understand how you’re feeling.

Please take care of yourself. I will raise a prayer for your mom as well.

  9. Thanks for CCR! It sounds like your mom is a tough person like you, so she will be OK. Always hard at this time though because you can’t visit. Sending hugs. xo

  10. I am so sorry to hear about your mother, Jacquie. I hope she will recover quickly. It is tough that you can’t visit. I have been fine but just far to busy. I am supposed to work a 6 hour day but it has been stretching to 10 or 11 hours which makes it hard for me to manage everything else in my life including my boys at home, home schooling. I think this will be with us for a while so I am doing my best to adapt to it. Stay strong. Hugs.

  11. Praying for a speedy recovery for your mom.

I honestly don’t know what to think about what is happening. I work for an essential business so I have followed my normal daily routine until after supper. Then, well, we watch TV or I read, or I freelance and do that work. I miss going out, shopping, having a bit of fun.

I do not want a new normal, I want my regular, plain, boring life back.

      1. He’s home, Jacquie, but we’re still wading through the follow-up appointments. I hope your mom comes home soon, but best if she’s a strong as possible.
I can’t wait until this is over.
