About SUNDAYS ARE FOR HANGOVERS

For nearly a year, they’ve been at war.
Cops. Forks. Eggs.
Two feuding neighbors who couldn’t be more opposite, forced to live next door to one another.
Neither is backing down.

She drives him crazy with her loud nineties rap music.
He gets under her skin the way he obsesses over his stupid lawn.

She fantasizes about having sex with the sexy nerd—but with duct tape over his dumb mouth.
He has dirty dreams of the bombshell beauty where he bangs the crazy right out of her—nightmares of course.
Anger isn’t the only thing heating up between these two.

They think this is a battle only one of them can win…
The growing attraction between them, though, seems to be far more stubborn than the two of them combined.

I stewed all day at work over the kiss that almost led to so much more. She’s making me lose my mind. I even made an error on a calculation and damn near accused the head of the mortgage department of fraud. What an ass I felt like when I reran the numbers only to conclude I was, in fact, wrong.

I’m never wrong.

I yank off my T-shirt and wipe the sweat from my face as I run. My phone is playing some old-school Metallica. The loud, raging guitars not only make me want to pull out my own guitar and start plucking away on some songs, but it also helps pump me up into realizing this morning was a mistake.

Lilith is hot, no doubt.

But I can’t stand her.

How does one want to fuck someone they hate?

I’m just rounding the corner to my street when I nearly trip over my own feet and fall. Lilith, in a black bikini top and a pair of cut-off daisy duke shorts, is washing her cherry-red Mustang in her driveway. The sun is going down, but the sunlight seems to seek her out. Golden strands in her hair catch the light and glimmer. I trot to a stop just to stare.

Fuck, there goes my resolve.

Wet. Bangin’ body. Tits and curves and that ass.

I’m hopeless.

I catch the old man, Mr. Daniels, across the street swinging in his porch swing, a goofy grin on his gray-whiskered face. It makes me want to build a fence in front of her house so he can’t look at her. Being President of the HOA, I could probably even get away with it…

“Yo, Wonka,” she calls out as I near. “You’re looking hot.”

I puff out my bare chest and smirk because at least someone notices all the hard work—

All thoughts are dashed when cold water blasts me in the face.

“Better cool you off!” she yells as she sprays me down.

She shoots my glasses right off my face and I end up dropping my shirt. I don’t stop to pick my shit up but instead chase down the blur who is now running from me while trying to soak me at the same time. I hook an arm around her wet waist but end up stumbling over my own feet since I can’t see where the fuck I’m going. We land in her grass with a collective “oomph.” She’s face down and my dick is conveniently pressed against her ass.

“You live to antagonize me,” I grumble as I bury my nose in her hair and inhale her.

She wiggles and the only thing she’s successful at doing is making me impossibly harder. “You started it.”

“And I’ll finish it.”

I tug at the string on her neck and then the one at her mid back. With a quick pull, I relieve her of her bikini top.

“Oh no, you just didn’t!” she squeals, a loud, adorable laugh escaping from her.

It’s then as I rise to my feet with her top in my hand that I realize my crazy neighbor is getting under my skin. She’s burying herself deep inside of me so I can’t think or focus on anything else. And I’m not sure I want to anyway.

She stands with her palms covering her perfect tits. Her smile is wicked as she arches a brow at me and backs up toward her house. “It’s on, Wonka. It’s fucking on.”

I smirk at her cute, dirty mouth. “Technically it’s off, demon girl.” I sling her top over my shoulder and walk over to collect my glasses and shirt. “Just face it, you’re not winning anything.” I slide on my glasses so I can fully appreciate the swells of her tits barely contained by her tiny hands.

Her back hits the front door and she shrugs. “We’ll see.”

And then she flips me off before slipping inside her house.

But not before me and Mr. Daniels get a nice, quick peek of a perfect tit I’m convinced I won’t see the last of.

Game on, Lilith, game on.

Exclusive Excerpt:

“Jack, I’ll clean up here. Why don’t you head out early for the night? Go take your girlfriend out somewhere nice. It’s a Friday night.” Peter’s voice boomed around the studio as he walked out of the supply closet, his scabbard buckled back into place. He walked past Viv, his stare focused on his office door where Jack emerged. He hadn’t seen her.

“You sure?” Jack’s voice echoed back.

“Yeah, I’ll meet you on set Monday. And bring your cup. Erin’s a sadistic little brat. She’d take a hard poke at your balls and call it an accident.”

Viv bit her cheek, trying not to laugh. The little girl would do something exactly like that. And with her big, blue eyes, everyone would believe it really was just an accident.

Jack laughed. “All right, man. See you Monday. Have a good weekend,” he said as he walked out of the studio, the door closing behind him.

Peter watched Jack shut the door before he slipped a longsword from a scabbard mounted along the wall, the silver metal gleaming opal in the light. This was no pirate swashbuckler sword. This was one of hard medieval lines, belonging to a knight or a king.

The tip of the sword rose above Peter’s head, the hilt trapped between his strong hands. He wielded it with such grace and ease. Silent. Powerful. Each swish and thrust into the open air part of a deadly dance.

His movements flowed, like water ran through his veins. These movements were different from his sword fight with Jack. These were slow, almost delicate. The blade sliced in perfect precision, as if Peter battled an invisible ghost.

Viv’s heart thudded in her chest, the only sound she heard besides the whooshing of Peter’s weapon. She stepped forward, mesmerized by the sword’s dance.

“I was wondering when you’d come out of hiding.” Peter’s voice broke the spell. His sword continued to split the air around him, his gaze focused on the blade rather than her.

Viv jerked back to reality. In her trance, she’d stepped onto the mat, a dozen feet away from Peter. Her blush pricked at the back of her neck, disappearing somewhere below her ponytail. “Sorry, I was just leaving.”

“No, you weren’t. Pick up the sword over there.” Peter pointed somewhere across the room, his eyes still focused on his invisible opponent.

Viv walked around the mat and saw another sword, similar in fashion but with different details. Long. Thin. Her hand wrapped around the hilt and lifted it.

Heavy.

She grasped the hilt with both hands and struggled to raise the metal sword upright. How did he wield this like it was as light a feather?

“Now come out onto the mat.” He lowered his blade and turned to watch her, their gazes locking as Viv moved.

Her arm muscles cried out in protest as the weight of the sword wobbled from one hand to the other. “You make it look easy.”

She let the weight of the sword tug her arm down, the tip thumping against the foam mat as it hung useless in her hand.

“Hold on.” Peter held out his hand to take her sword. “I have a better idea.”

Viv offered the sword to him, the tip still on the ground. He picked the sword up from her grip and held both longswords in one hand, raising them and resting the dulled edges on his shoulders before smirking and walking back to the storage room.

“Showoff,” she said, her voice bouncing around her.

Peter’s laugh echoed like deep chamber music. “I’ll be right back.” He disappeared into the tiny room. A minute later, he returned with two long fencing rapiers. “These should be easier.” He tossed one to her.

She caught the edge of the handle, but it bounced off her hand and clattered onto the mat beside her. She blushed again as she lifted the sword by the hilt. Thin. Flexible. And much more lightweight. She lifted it with ease, raising it in front of her.

Peter circled around her, his own sword in hand.

Her body honed in on his every movement. Every shift of his feet. Every tilt of the sword. Every flicker of his eyes. His gaze burned into her, stripping her bare as she stood rooted to the floor. She couldn’t move if she wanted to. His piercing stare locked her in place. Her heart thumped hard in her chest and she wondered if he could hear it too. Butterflies yawned and woke in her belly, tickling her from the inside.

“You’re ready for me,” he smirked, stopping in front of her before taking two steps back. He raised his sword, the thin blade blazing orange in the setting sunlight.

Viv raised the blade to match his. She lunged.

He struck her blade with his, moving it out of the way with no effort. His smile twitched into a wicked smirk. He lunged for her.

Viv flung her sword upward, the blades catching on one another. The light caught in the middle of the swords, a large metal X locking over them. Peter stepped closer, pressing more of his strength into the blade.

Viv’s grip slipped a bit, but she pushed her arms forward to keep the blades pressed together.

“Clever girl,” Peter growled before his sword sliced through the air and cut his words. He stepped back, eyeing her. Waiting for her next move.

Viv slid to the side, but Peter’s sword blocked her blow with ease, his smile teasing her. She knew this was child’s play for him. She wanted to make it a bit more difficult. “Don’t go so easy on me,” she panted. Her lungs burned from the exertion and her muscles hummed like a bow playing over violin strings.

“Darling, I’m only just getting started on you.”

Can Gilda and the psychic solve this case before the killer strikes again?… A Different Kind of Reunion by @JoanneGuidoccio #CozyMystery #Reading @WildRosePress

ADifferentKindofReunion_w12053_750 (2)

Blurb

While not usually a big deal, one overlooked email would haunt teacher Gilda Greco. Had she read it, former student Sarah McHenry might still be alive.

Suspecting foul play, Constable Leo Mulligan plays on Gilda’s guilt and persuades her to participate in a séance facilitated by one of Canada’s best-known psychics. Six former students also agree to participate. At first cooperative and willing, their camaraderie is short-lived as old grudges and rivalries emerge. The séance is a bust.
Determined to solve Sarah’s murder, Gilda launches her own investigation and uncovers shocking revelations that could put several lives—including her own—in danger. Can Gilda and the psychic solve this case before the killer strikes again?

Excerpt

“Gilda, could you drop by tomorrow?” Constable Mulligan said, his voice cracking. “I’d like to wrap up this investigation as soon as possible. Give her parents some closure.”

Did he think he could wrap it up in a day? And what on earth could I contribute to the investigation? It didn’t make any sense at all. “Uh…I’m sorry. I’m having trouble with all of this. I don’t know—”

He cleared his throat. “We could meet for lunch at Trapper’s Choice Restaurant. They have fresh pickerel on Fridays.”

“I have clients scheduled for appointments all afternoon.” Or most of the afternoon. I liked to close the ReCareering office early on Friday afternoons.

“You’re still working?” he asked, surprise overtaking his previous gruffness. “I didn’t think you’d need to…I mean, you should be okay…”

He knew about my lottery win. Not surprising, since the lottery people had plastered my name and face everywhere when I won nineteen million dollars in Lotto 649. A quick Google search would have revealed my four-year-old lottery win. Old news, but still there on the second and third pages.

Tempted to end the conversation, I realized I couldn’t turn my back on Sarah or any of the others who might still be in danger. I mentally scanned my calendar. I had a two o’clock appointment and would be free to leave around three. I calculated the distance and figured I could drive to Parry Sound in ninety minutes or so. I added an extra hour and shared my plans.

“Great! You’ll have a couple of hours before the séance.”

“What séance?” Were Friday night séances a regular occurrence in Parry Sound? And why would someone like Constable Mulligan, who didn’t sound like a touchy-feely type of guy, attend one?

Character Interview

Are you happy with the genre your writer has placed you in?

I’m very happy with the cozy mystery genre. While I enjoy reading psychological thrillers, I could never imagine myself in one of them. Thankfully, the writer shares my feelings.

Do you like the way the book ended?

Of the three books in the series, I like this ending the best. The other two endings could be described as “Happily for Now,” while this ending is definitely “Happily Ever After.”

Would you be interested in a sequel, if your writer was so inclined?

Sigh! I was hoping for Books 4 and 5, but it looks like the writer wants to take a break from the Gilda Greco Mystery Series. But I’m not losing hope…she might change her mind in late October. She may get the “bug” when all she starts receiving all those NaNoWriMo emails and notices.

What do you do for a living?

A retired teacher, I have devoted my second act to career counseling. In 2011, I opened the first ReCareering office in Northern Ontario.

What is your greatest fear?

I have so many goals I wish to accomplish. I fear I’ll run out of time.

What do you wear when you go to sleep?

Cotton nightshirts

What is your most prized possession?

A hard question to answer. To be truthful, I don’t think I have “one” specific item that fits that description. In case of emergency, I would definitely reach for my purse and car keys. Other than that, everything else in my life is replaceable.

What do you think your greatest weakness is?

I overthink each new situation. Before making a decision, I’ll spend days (sometimes longer) researching and journaling about all the options. Underlying all that angst is a strong perfectionist streak I’m working hard to eradicate.
