Snowbound With Mr. Wrong

Jacquie โ€“ thanks for sharing this book with your readers!

To celebrate the upcoming holidays, my publisher has priced Snowbound with Mr. Wrong at 99 cents from November 9 through November 16.

From the cover:

Worst. Day. Ever. After Lyssa Barnettโ€™s sister tricks her into reprising her role at Snowflake Valley’s annual children’s party, she doesnโ€™t think anything can be worse than squeezing into her too-small elf costume. Then tall, dark, and way too handsome Nick Tavlock shows up to play Santaโ€ฆand an unexpected storm leaves them snowbound in the isolated lodge.

The last thing Nick wants is to spend a cozy Christmas Eve with a trio of kids and the woman who dumped him. But as much as Lyssa frustrates him, he can’t stop thinking about her.ย And soon, he’s fighting very un-Santa-like thoughts of kissing a certain sexy Miss Elf under the mistletoe. As Nick starts to fall for Lyssa all over again, he knows it will take nothing short of a miracle to have Lyssa in his arms on Christmas Day.

Excerpt:

This is from early on in the story. The party is over but Nick and Lyssaโ€™s troubles have just begun. As they try to leave the lodge, only to hit disaster:

No matter how she tried, Lyssa couldnโ€™t get the rear wheels to inch, angle, or crawl up and over the edge of the roadway. Nick could see the frustration in her face. When he touched her arm and she looked his way, he couldnโ€™t miss the despair in her eyes. He gave her a smile he hoped she would find reassuring. โ€œAll right, now we move on to plan B.โ€

โ€œWhatโ€™s plan B?โ€ Mollie asked.

โ€œWe get out and go see whatโ€™s blocking the road.โ€

They couldnโ€™t tell anything from inside the car. In the short time since they had stopped moving, a layer of white had covered the windows. Lyssa tried the wipers, which left only frozen smears on the windshield.

Brent was the first one to exit the car. Nick had made it halfway through his door when the kid returned, brushing snow from his hair and shoulders.

โ€œItโ€™s a tree!โ€ For the first time since Nick had met him, the teenagerโ€™s voice shifted out of neutral. โ€œItโ€™s blocking the whole road. No way weโ€™re getting out of here!โ€

Nick pulled himself upright, standing on his good foot, and looked across the carโ€™s roof at Lyssa. Her already fair skin had turned a shade whiter.

โ€œI wanna see!โ€ Tommy yelled, scrambling out of the back seat.

Mollie followed on his heels. โ€œMe, too.โ€

โ€œStay right here for a minute,โ€ Lyssa ordered.

She came around the rear of the car to Nickโ€™s side. โ€œThis couldnโ€™t have happened too long ago,โ€ she said, sounding bewildered. โ€œWe werenโ€™t that far behind all the others.โ€

โ€œFar enough. Our bad luck,โ€ he muttered, trying to put weight on his right foot without her noticing. When he grimaced, she couldnโ€™t help but see. โ€œOur bad luckโ€”and me slowing us down.โ€

A twinge of guilt even stronger than his pain shot through him. Frustration overwhelmed him. He thumped his fist on the roof of the car and was rewarded by a shower of snow falling onto his boot.

Great. A sprain on one foot, frostbite on the other.

โ€œYouโ€™re not the only one who brings bad luck,โ€ she said cryptically. Not bothering to explain, she shook her head. โ€œAnd you didnโ€™t slow us that much. If anything, it was me, worrying about all those leftovers and taking too much time to put them away.โ€ Her eyes misted as she looked up at him.

His heart seemed to wrench, and all he wanted to do was wrap his arms around her. But he needed to stay on task. โ€œWe canโ€™t think about all that now.โ€

โ€œI know.โ€ She dropped her voice to a hoarse whisper. โ€œNick. Obviously, everyone else from the party made it past this point. They donโ€™t know about the tree. They canโ€™t know weโ€™re stranded here. Andโ€ฆโ€

He nodded grimly. โ€œAnd they wonโ€™t be coming back to pick us up.โ€

  1. Thank you for this post, Jacquie. How perfect for the holidays! So good to meet you, Barbara. Scorpions in the bathroom is an image I won’t soon forget. ๐Ÿ˜ I grew up in the southwest and know those little creatures well.

    1. Hi, Gwen – so nice to meet you, too! The book was lots of fun to write because of the story and characters, but also because while I was writing it, I celebrated Christmas. )

I’m a transplant to the Southwest but am pretty sure I wouldn’t be used to scorpions even if I’d been born here. LOL

  2. I was upset when I lived to Arkansas and saw a scorpion near the pool. I certainly wouldn’t have been happy to see one (or more) in the house!

The book sounds lovely. Best wishes, Barbara. Thanks for sharing, Jacquie.

    1. Thanks for the kind words and best wishes, Staci!

Ugh on the scorpion in Arkansas. I was hoping they didn’t travel that far north. LOL As for seeing it near the pool, we don’t have one, but I live in fear of the day I spot one when I’m in the shower.
