I’ve had an excellent reading week. Each of these authors are at the top of their game. All are page-turners in a variety of genres.

Kristan Higgins is a wonderful contemporary writer with a flair for blending complex characters and humorous situations.

Kristan Higgins

Kristan Higgins is the New York Times, USA TODAY and Publishers Weekly bestselling author of more than twenty novels, which have been translated into more than two dozen languages and have sold millions of copies worldwide. Her books have received dozens of awards and accolades, including starred reviews from Entertainment Weekly, People, Kirkus, The New York Journal of Books, Publishers Weekly, Library Journal and Booklist.

The happy mother of two snarky and entertaining grown children, Kristan enjoys gardening, mixology, the National Parks and complimenting strangers on their children. She lives in Connecticut with her heroic firefighter husband, cuddly dog and indifferent cat.

Finding a good man in a small town has never been so difficult!

Maggie is feeling the pressure of being the single twin in her family. Her mother thinks she’s a disappointment, and the folks in Gideon’s Cove think her love life is hilarious. On top of that, Maggie meets a handsome new guy only to find he’s the new Catholic priest! Maybe everyone is right- she’s hopeless.

She reluctantly agrees to a few blind dates arranged by friends and family, which turn out to be colossal mistakes, but then dark and moody Malone, her brother’s friend, saves her from a couple of embarrassing ordeals, and suddenly, Maggie notices the broody fisherman in a whole new light.

Maggie is an interesting juxtaposition of cheerful businesswoman (she owns the café her grandfather started) and sad, lonely heart.

This is a fun, yet heart-wrenching read you won’t want to miss!

J. R. Ward, author of the incredibly popular BDB (Black Dagger Brotherhood) series, has done it again with Lover Unveiled- Devina is back!

J.R. Ward is the author of more than thirty novels, including those in her #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series. There are more than fifteen million copies of her novels in print worldwide, and they have been published in twenty-six different countries. She lives in the South with her family.

The #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series returns featuring a powerful MMA fighter with a buried secret that can change the world of Caldwell forever.

When Mae’s brother stumbles into her arms and dies, it starts a chain of events that will put her on a collision course with the demon, Devina, and an ancient book of magic that may, or may not be her salvation.

Sahvage has one goal- to die. That is until he is ‘saved’ by a beautiful civilian and is drawn into her desperate search for The Book, except he can’t let her find the dangerous tome.

I love Devina! She has no remorse and literally rips the heart from couples yet dreams of an eternal love of her own.

True love was immortal. And when you were a demon, when there was no exit ramp for your existence, you valued things that could keep up with your forever calendar of nights and days. Infinity was less fun than people thought.

Lover Unveiled- J. R. Ward

The brotherhood plays a prominent role in this story. It was great to reconnect with Wrath, Vishous, Butch, Torh, and the others as they go up against this formidable new foe!

No one does suspense like Brenda Novak!

Join Brenda Novak’s Online Book Group on Facebook– http://www.facebook.com/groups/brendanovaksbookgroup/. We’re currently reading THE TRUE COWBOY OF SUNSET RIDGE by Maisey Yates. Get an autographed copy in one of Brenda’s popular Book Boxes: http://www.brendanovakstore.com/.

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s career as a bestselling author–she caught her day-care provider drugging her children with cough syrup to get them to sleep all day. That was when Brenda decided she needed to quit her job as a loan officer and help make a living from home.

“When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book,” Brenda says. But she sold that book, and the rest is history. Her novels have made the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists and won many awards, including eight Rita nominations, the Book Buyer’s Best, the Book Seller’s Best, the Silver Bullet and the National Reader’s Choice Award.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are proud parents of five children–three girls and two boys. When she’s not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising funds for diabetes research (her youngest son has this disease). So far, Brenda has raised $2.6 million!

Virgil Skinner served fourteen years for a murder he didn’t commit. He’s finally been exonerated, but he can’t escape the gang he joined in order to survive. They’ll do anything to keep him from telling what he knows. And if they can’t get to Virgil they’ll go after his sister and her kids.

After spending half his life in a maximum-security prison for a murder he didn’t commit, Virgil has been exonerated, but of course, it’s not that simple. If he wants to protect his sister and her young children, he must go back into another prison, infiltrate a rival gang, and find out who killed a high-profile judge- no problem.

“Prison gangs are racially based. Does that mean you’re a supremacist, a racist?”

“I’m a survivalist.”

Inside- Brenda Novak

Chief Deputy Warden Peyton Adams doesn’t want trouble in her prison. Bringing Virgil in is dangerous. There’s little chance she can keep him safe once he’s on the inside, and their mutual attraction muddies the waters. How can she stay professional when every moment he’s behind bars is torture?

This is an in-depth portrayal of prison gangs and their far-reaching resources, inside and out of the system.

“Their activities are mostly drug-related?”

“They don’t limit themselves. They’re involved in drugs, yes, but also assault, murder, attempted murder, prostitution. Even white-collar crimes like fraud, counterfeiting and identity theft.”

A page-turner!
