A Double Dutch Ranch Series Spin Off Novel.

Rancher Jake Lawton is coming to terms with his wife’s infidelity, but he doesn’t expect to become a single dad overnight. He discovers a malicious act by his wife, which could affect both he and his son’s lives. By chance, he runs into his high school sweetheart, never expecting the same old yearnings to return with one “How are ya?” embrace. Has their unanticipated meeting arrived at the perfect time, or has years apart put an end to what should’ve been years ago?
Beth Marconi arrives home to help care for her ailing father. In town, she inadvertently runs into her first love—the cowboy she nearly married after graduation. Sparks ignite before they say hello, but how do they start over when life has left them so bruised? When her ex comes to town, she’s forced to explain the secret surrounding her marriage. Is Jake the kind of man who will understand, or will he revert to the hell-raiser he had become when Beth left thirteen years ago?
Filled with both anguish and hope at Christmastime, a grieving little boy and two lonely hearts pursue a second chance. Jake and Beth seek to work with what they have today instead of living in yesterday’s memories. Forever love and second chances are possible. Right?

Excerpt:

Chad Manning was right by calling Paige names, even though Jake couldn’t bring himself to say them. Again, he picked up his phone and when Beth answered, he blurted out, “Baby, can you come over? This is important. I need to show you something.” He had to tell someone, and she was the only person who’d keep the secret. “Can you?”

“Now?”

“Yeah.” He hated the sound of his voice when he pleaded, but if he didn’t get this out he’d burst. His brain was ready to stroke, and his heart ached, filled with both love and hate.

“All right. I can be there in twenty minutes. Are you in some kind of trouble?”

“What? No! I should get there a little before you. I’m between home and Superior, closer to Superior.” Did everybody think he was up to no good? He was the only one who could change his reputation. But he already had changed.

“I’m on my way.”

Jake pulled out of the gas station and headed back home. Due to traffic slowing him down, Beth was there when he arrived. She came up to him when he stepped out of his truck. She had tried to read his face—he saw it in her eyes. Hopefully, it was as blank as his emotions.

She put her arm around his shoulder and kissed him. “You sounded upset. What’s going on?”

“Come inside. I’m already late, and I have to pick up Trace soon, but you have to see this.” He took her hand and walked her upstairs to his bedroom.

“Well, honey, I’ve already seen what you’re about to show me in here.” A little giggle slipped out as they entered his bedroom.

Jake didn’t laugh. “Take a seat if you want.” He opened the drawer and removed the folder where he had hidden the yellow envelope. “You’re not going to believe this. This morning I wanted this cabinet cleaned out, and I came across this.” He sat on the bed, handing the envelope to Beth. Jake leaned forward, his elbows against his knees, and he rocked while holding his head as she read it.

“Omigod, Jake.” She laid her hand on his back. “Omigod.”

What do you write?

I write Contemporary Western Romance with strong family ties, and I love every minute of it.

What genre do you favor?

It doesn’t come as a surprise that I favor what I write. What can I say? I love the western environment, including horses, and of course, cowboys. 🙂

When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?

I knew I wanted to be a writer when I was young. The thought or yearning had always been there in my head. I used to make up stories for the pictures in my coloring books.

Are you published?

Yes. Whispers of Forever is my eighth western romance after a hiatus between two older books.
