The DG

But Detective Angie Pallorino hasn’t forgotten the violent rapist who left a distinctive calling card—crosses etched into the flesh of his victims’ foreheads. When a comatose Jane Doe is found in a local cemetery, sexually assaulted, mutilated, and nearly drowned, Angie is struck by the eerie similarities to her earlier unsolved rapes. Could he be back?

Then the body of a drowned young woman, also bearing the marks of the serial rapist, floats up in the Gorge, and the hunt for a predator becomes a hunt for a killer. Assigned to the joint investigative task force, Angie is more than ready to prove that she has what it takes to break into the all-male homicide division. But her private life collides with her professional ambitions when she’s introduced to her temporary partner, James Maddocks—a man she’d met just the night before in an intense, anonymous encounter.

Together, Angie and Maddocks agree to put that night behind them. But as their search for the killer intensifies, so does their mutual desire. And Angie’s forays into the mind of a monster shake loose some unsettling secrets about her own past. How can she fight for the truth when it turns out her whole life is a lie?

My Review

Loreth Anne White’s books are NOT for the feint of heart!

They’re gritty, thrilling, page-turning suspense novels that will stay with you long after the last page is read.

Detective Angie Pallorino has seen the worst of human nature during her years on the sex crimes unit, but nothing can prepare her for the vicious killer stalking her city.

James Maddocks marriage ended due to the stress of his job as a cop, and his relationship with his daughter is floundering. He takes a demotion in order to move closer to her and finds himself caught up in a high-profile murder case with the officer he’d hooked up with in an anonymous one night stand.

Can they put their growing feelings aside in order to catch a killer before he strikes again?

White puts a boatload of intensity into her characters. They’re damaged, sometimes even unlikeable, but it’s impossible not to feel empathy for them and hope and pray for their emotional and physical well-being.

The scene-setting was as chilling as the storyline. Coming from Victoria, I could easily picture the areas described which added an extra WOW factor to the book. I won’t be going out alone anytime soon, lol.

I give The Drowned Girls 5+ lovely kisses and can’t wait until the next Angie Pallorino tale comes out this fall!
