He never thought he’d see her again!
After being reported missing, presumed dead, globe-hopping photojournalist Mitch Simmons never thought he’d see his estranged wife, Zoe, again. Yet here he is back in their coastal Florida town, where Zoe is mayor. Turns out she isn’t the only one he left behind.

Your Wedding Day…and the Photographer
(Source: https://www.pexels.com/photo/wedding-preparation-313707/)
In His One and Only Bride, Mitch is an injured photojournalist back in the small town where he started his career. He reluctantly embraces the role as the town photographer, covering weddings, family events and studio shots. He quickly discovers he loves weddings and soon becomes the go-to guy in town.
An important and memorable aspect to the overall wedding experience are the pictures commemorating the event. A photographer’s job is to catch the overall joy of the ceremony and the fun of the reception. Much weight is placed on the photographer to catch all these special moments. So as a wedding professional, what are some of the tips of the trade?
In his job as a photojournalist, Mitch would use the pictures he captured to tell a story. He soon learns that at weddings, candid shots, or to be more specific, unposed pictures, are important because they don’t tell the story as much as evoke the atmosphere. How many of us have seen or remember from our own wedding just what is involved? The mother/daughter photo. The bride and her father sharing a private moment before he proudly walks his daughter down the aisle. The look on the groom’s face when he first sees his bride for the first time.
Weddings are emotional and unpredictable, but the photographer’s job is to catch all the emotions of the day. Not only are memorializing specific parts of the wedding necessary, such as the vows or the throwing of the bouquet, but the reaction from the couple and their guests add to the overall story. A picture of a grandfather dancing with his cute little granddaughter is priceless, even if it isn’t focused on the bride and groom. The memories include everyone there, and the photographer has the awesome responsibility to make the memories last.
Then there are the sweet, unexpected moments. The bride tearing up as she views the guests who have been present on her happy day. An impromptu toast with her bridesmaids. The groom laughing with his friends or a pat on the back from his father. Put these all together and the day can be relived every time the couple opens the photo album.
It’s all in the details. From a shot of the reception hall before the festivities begin, to the flower arrangements and cake, to the bride on the dance floor wearing flip flops with her beautiful satin dress. Shooting strategies, camera angles, positioning to get just the right shot, all of these are carefully considered by the photographer. And if all the planning and preparation comes off without a hitch, the bride and groom have a beautiful photo diary as they begin their lives together.

I can’t imagine the see-saw mix of emotions you’d go through thinking your husband is dead, making peace with it, moving on with your life–and then he’s back.
Thanks for stopping by, Debbie 🙂
