I fell for Connor Drake. I didn’t want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow.

I’m in love with Connor…so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there’s electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can’t keep me away.

But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I’ll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle…for both of them.

My Review

This book chewed my emotions to shreds!

I’d see the cover on several blogs and was drawn to both the title and the feel of it, but then I read Jennifer’s review on Tar Heel Reader and knew I had to give it a try. I’m so glad I did!

Emma Scott is a new-to-me author of , something I haven’t read a lot of, but she’s made me a fan with fresh, dynamic writing that tugged on my very soul. I kid you not, this is a MUST READ NOVEL!

Seven-year-old Weston Turner arrives home just in time to see his safe reliable world turned upside down with his father’s cowardly escape. His family is forced from their home and sent down a road of self-distruction. Wes blames himself for his father’s betrayal and writes to purge himself of the pain.

When an opportunity arrives to attend an ivy league school, Wes turns in his poem, not daring to hope it could change his future. He’s accepted to the school but soon learns it comes with a price. About this time he meets popular, rich kid, Connor Drake and they become friends.

Connor floats through a life of privilege. Everything comes easily to him- except his parents’ approval. He’s never met anyone like Weston before, prickly, angry, hurt. Someone who understands him.

The two become fast friends with Connor protecting Wes from getting his face rearranged, thanks to his attitude, and Wes returning the favor by doing the work to keep Connor’s grades up, and his parents off his back.

Then Autumn Caldwell appears:

Her name was Autumn. Of course it was. As if her parents knew she’d grow up to be a living embodiment of the season. Coppery hair, like an October forest of turning leaves. Hazel eyes that were mostly rich brown, but flecked with gold, green and amber, and weighted with sadness.

Scott, Emma. Bring Down the Stars (Beautiful Hearts Duet Book 1) (Kindle Locations 629-631). Kindle Edition.

What follows is the most beautiful, sad, emotional story I’ve EVER read.

I don’t want to give the storyline away, suffice to say you won’t walk away from this book. It’s going to stay with anyone who reads it for a long, long time.

I tried to be mad a Connor for what he had Wes do, and angry at Wes for agreeing to it, but these two are so intertwined with each other (Think twins) that I could understand how it happened.

I stiffened automatically. A reflex when someone tried to touch me. But Connor was already sunk into my marrow, blood, and bones.

Scott, Emma. Bring Down the Stars (Beautiful Hearts Duet Book 1) (Kindle Locations 3734-3735). Kindle Edition.

But, consequences are coming.

I give Bring Down the Stars 5+ lovely kisses- This is a 10 star book!

  1. Wow, that is an amazing review! I love the title and the blurb sounds excellent. I may need to set it aside for when I can handle a fiercely emotional read. It sounds like I’m going to need Kleenex!
